Division One wrap: Shelbourne held by Cobh Ramblers, Galway earn narrow victory

Meanwhile, Longford kept the pressure on at the top with a 1-0 win over Wexford Youths.

LEADERS SHELBOURNE WERE held to a 2-2 draw with bottom-of-the-table Cobh Ramblers, while Galway earned a narrow 1-0 over Wexford Youths, and Longford defeated Finn Harps by the same scoreline in tonight’s League of Ireland Division One action.

Conor Murphy put Shelbourne ahead in Cobh on 38 minutes, to give them a 1-0 half-time lead, before Ronan Stanton equalised on the hour mark.

Shels re-took the lead just a minute later through Dylan Cashin, but Robert Waters’ goal five minutes from time earned his side a rare point.

It was a better evening for another title-contending team — second-placed Galway. Tommy Dunne’s side beat Wexford Youths 1-0 to maintain their title bid, as Stephen Walsh got the game’s decisive goal on 25 minutes.

Meanwhile, third-placed Longford Town also won by a solitary goal away to Finn Harps, as Glen O’Connor made the vital breakthrough on 85 minutes.

The result means Longford now trail leaders Shels by just two points with a game in hand.
