IT TOOK A meeting with Oasis legend Noel Gallagher for Manchester City’s man of mystery to lift the lid on the reported sightings of him doing the weird and wonderful in public.
BBC’s Football Focus arranged for Mario Balotelli, who says he’s not a fan of journalists, to sit down for a one-to-one with avid City fan Gallagher. And while the results make for entertaining viewing, Super Mario quashed some of the rumours which have emerged about him during his short career in England.
So, sadly… here goes:
- Balotelli’s house caught fire after an incident with fireworks… True.
- He gave a homeless person £1,000 after winning money in a casino… False.
- He helped a young fan who was being bullied in school… False.
- When his mum sent him shopping for an ironing board, he arrived back with a trampoline and two scooters… True.
- Mario is allergic to grass…True.
- He put £200 in the church collection basket on Christmas Eve before spending £1,000 on a round down his local pub… False.
- Balotelli drove around Manchester dressed as Santa Claus… False.
Balotelli, who admitted that he had never heard of the club before signing and only made the move because of Roberto Mancini, has also urged fans to welcome returnee Carlos Tevez back to the Premier League leaders.
The Argentinian has been in self-imposed exile since September after refusing to come on as a substitute during a Champions League tie against Bayern Munich.
With a return to the first team thought to be imminent, Balotelli hopes the City faithful will show their appreciation for last season’s top goalscorer.
I think supporters have to be like they were before. If they make pressure on Carlos, they make pressure to all the team, so they should do nothing,” Balotelli said.
“I think everyone can make a mistake. Carlos is part of the team. He’s just a part of the team, so everybody loves him.”
