DERRYTRESK HAVE INDICATED that they will appeal against a ban which prevents them from representing Tyrone or Ulster at club level for the next five years.
The club confirmed today that it will seek to overturn the ban which would render them ineligible should they qualify for either the provincial and All-Ireland Club Championships, BBC reports.
On Tuesday, the Central Hearings Committee (CHC) upheld heavy sanctions against the Tyrone club for their part in the violence which marred their All-Ireland Junior club football semi-final win over Dromid Pearses last month.
Derrytresk have been cleared to play in Sunday’s final against St Patrick’s Clonbur in Croke Park, though they will be without seven suspended squad members for what has been painted as the biggest day in the club’s 109-year history.
Derrytresk players and team officials will also be subject to a number of strict GAA-enforced restrictions, outlined by the CHC in a statement yesterday.
Dromid Pearses were fined €2,000 and had three players suspended by the CCCC last week for their part in the violence. The club have indicated that they will appeal one of the suspensions as well as the fine, though no date has been set for their hearing yet.
