AN ON-FIELD ROW at last month’s Derry senior club football championship final has resulted in year-long bans for three Ballinderry players, the BBC report tonight.
Aaron Devlin, Michael Conlan and Gareth McKinless were part of a Ballinderry side aiming for a fourth consecutive title, but were upset by a dramatic late Slaughtneil goal in the October 19 final.
The referee and umpires were targeted in angry scenes that followed the disputed score and Devlin later let his displeasure at the decision known on social media.
On top of the three one-year bans, county players Collie Devlin and James Conway were handed one-match Championship bans and the club’s home ground of Shamrock Park will be barred from holding senior men’s fixtures for the coming year.
“The club co-operated fully with Derry GAA and regret and apologise for scenes around the county final,” Ballinderry chairman Stephen McGeehan told the BBC.
“The sanctions seem very severe but no decision will be taken until the executive committee meets.”
