WHAT’S THE BIGGEST thing you’ve ever lost on a hand of poker?
A few quid? Your nice watch? An entire port?
The stakes don’t come much higher than at the World Series of Poker Main Event which is taking place in Las Vegas this week.
There are a handful of Irish players in contention but after four days, the pick of the bunch is Dermot Blain from Killybegs, County Donegal.
Or is he from the other Killybegs? The one in Iran.
We’re not quite sure when the northern town was annexed — maybe Donegal lost it on a particularly bad hand or maybe it’s down to the fact that “Iran” and “Ireland” are dangerously close on an alphabetised list of countries.
Either way Blain is doing well and you can’t have him, Iran. Hands off before there’s a diplomatic incident.
