The Departures Lounge: AVB targets Moutinho and Hammers want Carroll

With 38 days until the Premier League restarts, you’ll have to make do with today’s transfer tittle-tattle.

HAVING MISSED OUT on Brazilian playmaker Oscar, Tottenham manager Andre Villas-Boas has turned his attention to a former player in the shape of Joao Moutinho.

The 25-year-old midfielder, who has previous experience working under AVB at Porto, impressed for Portugal during Euro 2012 and is said to be keen to link up again with a move to Spurs.

There was talk that Alex Ferguson was interested in bringing the former Sporting Lisbon player to Manchester United but no advances have been made and, with Luka Modric likely to leave and uncertainty over the future of Rafael van der Vaart, Moutinho fits the bill.

After already adding Gylfi Sigurdsson and agreeing a deal for Jan Vertonghen, a goalkeeper is next on the former Chelsea boss’ list. France No.1 Hugo Lloris has indicated he is ready to move on from Lyon and around €19m would do the trick.

GOING?

There has been further talk today that Andy Carroll could be set for the exit door at Liverpool, either on loan or on a permanent basis. As Brendan Rodgers moves closer to securing the signature of Roma’s Fabio Borini, West Ham has signalled an interest in taking the striker on a short-term deal, while former club Newcastle would be willing to pay €19m… which is about €26m less than what they received for the same player 18 months ago.

Another player Rodgers will try to persuade to join him on Merseyside is Real Madrid winger Jose Callejon. The 25-year-old scored 13 goals for La Liga champions Real Madrid last season despite spending much of his time on the bench and he could be up for a switch to get more playing time.

GOING?

Madrid chief Jose Mourinho would love to have David Silva at the Santiago Bernabeu and is willing to test Manchester City’s resolve by offering €44m for the Euro 2012 winner. Silva’s commitment to the Premier League winners is at the moment unknown but the same thing can’t be said about Yaya Toure, who says he’s sticking with the Citizens and is glad to learn that Roberto Mancini is doing the same.

At Chelsea, a plan to bring in German international Andre Schurrle from Bayer Leverkusen could spell the end for Daniel Sturridge. Hulk, meanwhile, insists he hasn’t held talks with officials at Stamford Bridge on a transfer from Porto.

GONE!

Finally, after bringing in midfielder Paul Green on a free transfer, Neil Warnock has added another Irish player to his Leeds team in the shape of QPR goalkeeper Paddy Kenny.
