Déise newcomer Hutchinson to miss Munster decider

Wayne Hutchinson of Waterford has been ruled out of the Munster SHC final against Tipperary after breaking his hand.

WATERFORD HURLER WAYNE Hutchinson has broken a bone in his hand and will be out of action for up to six weeks.

The full-back only made his debut for Davy Fitzgerald’s men in the recent Munster SHC semi-final win over Limerick and had been pencilled in to start the upcoming final against Tipperary on Sunday, 10 July.

However, Hutchinson sustained a hand injury during Ballygunner’s Waterford Senior County Championship win over Passage. He immediately went for an X-ray and a fracture was confirmed.

Fitzgerald has a number of options to fill the Déise’s number three jersey in Hutchinson’s absence. Michael ‘Brick’ Walsh is no stranger to the position, while U21 star Darragh Fives and the fit-again Liam Lawlor could also come into consideration.

Meanwhile, it has been confirmed that the clash will take place in Cork’s Páirc Uí Chaoimh and has been pencilled in for a 4pm throw-in.
