Ole Gunnar Solskjaer hails De Gea display as 'the best goalkeeping performance I've seen'

The praise was universal for the Spaniard.

MANCHESTER UNITED LEGEND Ole Gunnar Solskjaer praised David de Gea’s performance against Liverpool as the best he’s ever seen from a goalkeeper at Old Trafford.

The Spain international was in inspired form as he kept out the likes of Raheem Sterling and Mario Balotelli on numerous occasions, with United going on to win the Premier League clash 3-0 to move within five points of second-placed Manchester City.

Asked where he would rank De Gea’s performance, Solskjaer told Sky Sports: “I’ve seen quite a few [outstanding performances] with the goalkeepers I’ve played with in [Peter] Schmeichel and [Edwin] Van der Sar but today was probably the best one I’ve seen at Old Trafford from a United goalkeeper.

“He saves them. There’s six clear-cut chances that should have been goals. He stands up, David Seaman was the same. He makes it very difficult to score against him.”

Jamie Carragher added: “We talk now about who the best goalkeeper in the world is. Maybe Manuel Neuer, I think we’d all agree on that with [Thibaut] Courtois very close. I bet if you asked those two goalkeepers, they’ve never probably put in a performance like that.

“That’s one of the best goalkeeping performances I’ve seen. He was brilliant, he was always in control and never panicked. He was the difference.”

‘We did enough to win the game, it epitomised our season really’ bemoans Brendan Rodgers

If United re-sing him for six years at 36 million pounds, he’ll happily go for it. He’s happy here, so he should have no reason to want to leave.

Shows the effect of putting your faith in goalkeepers and keeping them playing, even when they’re under fire like De Gea was not too long ago.

I have to say that when he first arrived at United I wasn’t his biggest fan at all, but fair play to the man, he has really come on leaps and bounds.

Liverpool lost 3-0 today but in a funny way Rodgers deserves some praise for today. The very least they should’ve got is a draw, I think Rodgers deserves til the end of the season. Hopefully sturridge gets back soon and challenge arsenal for 4th. Although at the moment it’s unlikely.

How did rodgers look at allen all day and den bring in markovic on de left, big fan of rodgers but he made a few weird decisions today,at times we were all over utd and def should hav got 2 or 3 goals but why leave gerrard sitting and we 2nil down, henderson on de right all day also, he could hav easily played gerrard off mario, henderson back in middle wit coutino and maybe Stirling and markovic on right, get allen off ta hell esp in second half,

He really has won United the best part of 10 points on his own this season. The fact he’s had to make important saves so often this season shows United’s defensive issues, but it’s incredible the amount of stops he’s made that looked like definite goals over the last month or two.

Headline is misleading though, he doesn’t quite say best ever.

Was at the game and watched the reception he got from stretford end before the game and how he keep acknowledging them! Still think he’s 2 saves at end of Everton game were the best I’ve seen for years

With him at the back in this form and the attacking talent up front, United are two excellent defenders away from being a ridiculously good team. Interesting to see if they can get Hummels in Jan transfer window.
