How brave was David Walsh back then to “call out” an Irish sporting hero like Stephen Roche….it’s no wonder as a journalist he’s peerless.

I remember watching that live , he was treated badly by everyone that night , still cringe at some of the comments made by members of the audience

That is actually shameful. Kenny was disgraceful and the audience were worse. hope they show some clips on the show tonight so he can have some retribution. David Walsh is a champion in his field.

I watched this a while back and have to admit that maybe Stephen Roche and Sean Kelly may have some questions to answer… not saying that they are guilty of anything but it certainly opened my eyes to the possibility.

As someone who believed in lance Armstrong and also thought Walsh was talking rubbish. How wrong was I? Im a nobody but i hope David Walsh would read this comment and wholeheartedly accept my humble apology.

The muppets in the audience are one thing, but Kenny, taking Roches side, against the evidence being presented to him is despicable. This kind of “don’t say anything bad about our heroes” gombeenism is not unlike the “don’t say anything bad about the priest” mentality that prevailed for so long

roache may have a case to answer. I remember him being taken off a mountain with him being pumped with oxygen nearly dead and then the next day not a bother on him

Amazing to see how calm Walsh was taking all that shite!! It’s a pity to see that an Irish sporting idle was cheating but hey if they were all doing it and that was the culture then so be it! Regulations need to be enforced I blame the anti doping bodies for allowing it when it was common knowledge

We have to remember a lot of cyclists have died prematurely. I am assuming now, that they were fed certain substances by their teams. These substances probably contributed to their early demise. Young men with dreams make pliable subjects. Walsh is vindicated, we should thank him. Roche probably was the best in the world that year. Delgado, second to him was eventually caught taking illegal substances some time after he won the Tour.
No one has won now, Walsh, the messenger suffered unfair abuse, heroes lie tarnished and some families have only graves to remember their dead sons.

My observations are that stephen is absolutely not convincing. He doesn’t address the point at all. Its all about the effect on his family, what that has to do with it I have no idea. The question is how is he mentioned in the files? No answer from stephen. That lady in the crowd I think just wanted to display her knowledge of the sport. One final thing, Dr Bill Tormey is an awful feckin ejeet. Could they have found anybody else…i felt embarrassed for him watching his contribution.

What David Walsh has done is great, and fair play to him. I think cheats will always find a way to cheat. Where there is vast sums of money in professional sport, technology and science will just produce a new undetectable EPO or something similar.

Irrespective of David Walsh (who has, ultimately been proved right re Lance Armstrong; one wonders is Stephen Roche shifting quite uncomfortably as we speak?) and Stephen Roche what’s as remarkable about the interview is a), the length of it and b), how well it’s conducted by Pat Kenny. If it was currently Tubs would be out of his’ depth and the interview would be much shorter. Also Kenny seems to have his’ research done. Can RTE show this to Tubs about how to conduct an interview?
