The bookies has unveiled a David Moyes ‘tribute’ statue at Anfield ahead of Liverpool’s home time with Chelsea. The bronze statue has been placed in front of the ground for Liverpool fans to get pictures with an inscription that reads ’David Moyes - For services to Liverpool Football Club’. The move comes six days after Manchester United sacked the Scot for leading the team to their worst league finish in over 20 years.
A statement from the bookies reads: “A bronze likeness of Moyes, every Liverpool fan’s current favourite job seeker, has been erected in his honour at Anfield to mark this season’s Manchester United meltdown and Liverpool being a whisker away from netting the title.
“At over 11ft tall, the statue is similar to Bill Shankly’s and has been positioned right alongside the hero by bookmaker Paddy Power for today’s home match against Chelsea. It bears the cheeky inscription and shows Moyes in his characteristically troubled and dejected pose.”
A Paddy Power spokesperson said, “The Moyes and Manchester United pairing may have had none of the magic of a drunken Tinder date, but there’s no doubt he’s the ‘chosen one’ for the Liverpool faithful who’ve also enjoyed seeing their club go from strength to strength this season. Just like Shankly, Moyes has been the icing on the cake when it comes to making the fans happy.”
Talk about kicking a man, who is £5m richer after his pay-off from a club he led to seventh in the league, when he is down.
