DAVID MOYES INSISTS he will always be ‘incredibly proud’ of having managed Manchester United and that he will take ‘invaluable experience’ from his time with the club.
In a statement released today through the League Manager’s Association, Moyes has spoken out in the wake of being sacked from his role at Old Trafford yesterday.
Moyes thanked his coaching staff and the fans for their help during this time at the helm but significantly did not reference the Manchester United players.
He also added that he is grateful to Alex Ferguson for giving him the chance to take the reins of the club.

The statement in full reads:
“To have been appointed as manager of Manchester United, one of the biggest football clubs in the world, was and remains something of which I will always be incredibly proud.
“Taking charge after such a long period of continuous stability and success at the club was inevitably going to be a significant challenge, but it was one which I relished and never had a second thought about taking on.
“The scale of the manager’s job at United is immense, but I have never stepped away from hard work and the same applies to my coaching staff. I thank them for their dedication and loyalty throughout the last season.
“We were fully focused and committed to the process of the fundamental rebuilding that is required for the senior squad. This had to be achieved whilst delivering positive results in the Barclays Premier League and the Champions League.
“However, during this period of transition, performances and results have not been what Manchester United and its fans are used to or expect, and I both understand and share their frustration.

“In my short time at the club I have learnt what special places Old Trafford and Carrington are. I would like to thank the United staff for making me feel so welcome and part of the United family from my first day. And of course thank you to those fans who have supported me throughout the season. I wish you and the club all the best for the future.
“I have always believed that a manager never stops learning during his career and I know I will take invaluable experience from my time as United’s manager. I remain proud to have led the team to the quarter finals of this year’s Champions League and I remain grateful to Sir Alex Ferguson for believing in my ability and giving me the chance to manage Manchester United.”
A statement of class and dignity, in stark contrast to the clubs handling of events the last few days which were distasteful to say the least. Don’t always agree with Roy Keane either but he was dead right yesterday, the players should be ashamed of themselves.
Can you imagine trying to manage a squad of Adonis,or babysitting a bunch of spoilt brats,or teaching the children of posh rich parents.David Moyes will do far better with the likes of Newcastle, where the players will want to work and prove themselves to him.And the fulfillment with be so much more than Man Utd could ever deliver.
I would agree the players didnt help him at all. If any of them behaved with fergie that way they wouldnt be at the club. I think Van persie and Rio’s attitudes were terrible. As a man u fan I always thought he was a decent guy . Its a shame it didnt work out for him
When you have the likes of Danny Wellbeck (reminds me of Andy Cole, needs 4 chances to score 1) “threatening” to leave for being played out of his favourite position you can see what a difficult job Moyes had on his hands.
What a classy statement, great respect for club and players despite the blatant lack of respect and dignity in how we was let go.
Still believe had he a better start, he would have had better results. Letting go of coaching team was crucial (players may have behaved better had some of the old staff remained to support Moyes), and then a new chairman who was useless in supporting transfer acquisitions meant it was always going to be a rough ride.
Wish him the best in his next post, he gets a bad rap for someone who was relatively successful with Everton when you look at the budget he had, less than 11 million on average spent a year.
He put together the squad and set up of most of those wonderful player who people think will get everton to CL, no matter if you think he blooded all of those or not, they wouldn’t be at the club or in first team squad if not for Moyes.
Sometimes things aren’t meant to be. I reckon the new manager will have seen the attitude of certain players and will show them the door in the summer – only de gea and roo have done ok this year
Couldn’t agree more.
Mata is a good buy but unfortunately he’s best at sitting behind striker and he couldn’t fit him in as he wanted RVP and Rooney to play, I would have dropped RVP, his performances way below his best and doesn’t work for you, can’t carry a player like that when you need all 11 in bad times.
New manager, get rid of some of the under performers, especially those who have shown poor attitude and effort in last 11 months.
There’s about 1 billion united fans that would have shown more passion commitment and effort than 80% of the team in the last year and would sell their first born to play for 5 mins on the OT turf, if some players don’t appreciate it, show them the door.
Not sure how you think Rooney has done ok this season, as far as a player who needs their attitude changed by the new manager or be shown the door he should be top of the list.
Disagree Sean thought Rooney tried his best until recently, agree with original statement that he did ok. I would be the first one to criticise him normally.
In fairness tried his best is not an acceptable standard for a player who rates himself as highly as Rooney, I think what you define as ok for a player who demands £ 300,000 per week needs to be looked at, just because he is running around all the time doesn’t mean he is having a positive impact on the teams performance.
I agree Sean, running around all the time doesn’t equal a positive impact on the team’s performance. 17 goals and 22 assists on the other hand … Far from enough considering what he’s earning, but far and away our best outfield player and we’d be raving mad to sell him.
Statistics can always be misleading, although while your quoting them he only has 19 assists, Van Persie has the same amount of goals in 13 less appearances and nobody’s claiming his performance as satisfactory. A player who United are investing so much faith and money in should be giving them much more of a return, his demands lead you to believe that he sees him self as the best or one of the best players in the league, and that’s who he should be judged against, being the best outfield player in a team that looks like it’s finishing 7th is not an acceptable level of performance. If he wants the big salary and the captaincy, then he needs to take the responsibility and when United needed him most he has not performed.
Honestly I don’t think he is worth the money and would have preferred the club to have sold to the highest bidder rather than give him that ludicrous contract. Big teams often need to be carried or inspired by big players and United need him to be their Toure or Suarez but he’s just not been up to that level. It’s hard not to feel that given how he held the club to ransom when they were in a vulnerable position despite his underwhelming performances United would have been better to cut him loose and invest their money and faith elsewhere.
Sean, it appears to be a ludicrous contract, but what you seem to not realise is that a huge amount of that money comes to the club through revenue they earn by marketing Rooney. Every other club would be desperate to have him, even if he never trained and just ate pies all day. He’s Nike’s “UK Athlete” and the reason why kids in Britain and Ireland are pestering their mums to buy these neon boots. He’s England’s great white hope and there’s nobody who has inspired that nation like him since Gazza. The face of EA sports, so again money comes rolling in with every new version of FIFA Soccer. He’s a walking goldmine, and the club are getting a major cut of that. As far as his ability is concerned, once they get in the next crop of top quality players with this 150 million, he won’t have to carry the team as much, and you might see his talents re-emerge like they did when he was on a par with his colleagues Ronaldo and Tevez.
I fully appreciate the product that is Wayne Rooney and the revenue he currently generates for the club and his sponsors, but you yourself give the example of Gazza which is I think a good comparison for Rooney. If we’re talking about Rooney as a product, I still personally feel its bad business, whether you think he had an “ok” season or not it’s hard to argue that his form has been in decline for at least 2 to 3 years at this stage, he drinks, he smokes and he struggles to maintain his weight and fitness in the off season, so as a result of these actions he is severely impacting his shelf life at the top level of football, he’s no Ryan Giggs, he will struggle to compete at the highest level as he moves into his 30′s. So at 28 it seems like a poor investment to give him a 5 and a half year contract of those reputed numbers as it will potentially become a financial burden on the club as his star fades towards the end of the contract, don’t forget you only have to look at Liverpool to see an exciting batch of English talent that the media machine will be looking to hype up, he could be in danger of becoming a forgotten man if he fails to regain the early heights of his career.
Then also you have to look at the precedent that this sets for the club with regard to any of the “top quality players” that you anticipate arriving, if they are out performing and out shining Rooney then this puts United in a pressure situation of having to match their financial demands reflecting their contribution relative to Rooney’s. All in all I feel that it is a short sighted decision that has a lot of potential for coming back to bite United in the coming seasons, from both a football and business perspectve.
Have to say my respect for him took a huge hit when he came out and suggested the fixture list might be biased against United at the start of the season. Didn’t take him long to get into the United frame of mind. Not to mention trying to rip off Everton with a ridiculous offer for Fellaini and Baines. If he was any good he would have known to go for Barkley and Coleman instead before their values shot up this season. I used to like him at Everton but he suddenly gained this huge sense of entitlement when he took over United, as if they could just pluck Fabregas away from Barca for a measly £25m and just swoop in for Everton’s best players like they couldn’t do anything to stop it. Maybe if he stopped once during the season to criticise his players and start slapping them into shape instead of taking every opportunity to praise the club like he was born and raised in Old Trafford then he wouldn’t have ended up in a situation where the like of RVP, Rio and Evra had no interest in doing well for him. The job was always too big for him
Maybe spurs should hire him when sherwood leaves this summer. he’ll be able to rebuild them and challenge for the top four and cup competitions given half a chance.
Half the Spurs squad is under 25 with some really talented youngsters like Eriksen, Lamela, Holtby and Kane who is taking his chances well. Spurs don’t need rebuilding they need a manager who can get the most out of the players they have. A manager who spends £37m on one of the best central attacking mids around only to shove him out on the wing is not that manager

Naah……..just relaying some ‘facts’ discovered on the back of the ‘community bin-lid’…… the bin itself apparently, is full of sentimental guilt and a long white and red banner!!
Yes under Alex Ferguson. The guy they named a stand after. The one and only retired manager.
Did you think these records would never be broken ? A different club alright a club that thinks it can have any player any manager. “Nobody is bigger than the club”. We’ve all heard this one.
The sacking of a manager that is trying to emulate the old has been the failure of their season. Alex ferguson needs to take up his teaching job now and be careful not to think the stand that is named after him he doesn’t actually own. The show must go on.. “There is no time like fergie time !!” Click your heals lads…
I know I was constantly giving out about Moyes on here. But I wish him all the best in the future. The job was too big for him. Frank O Farrell knows how tough it was.
I’ve nothing buy respect for DM.He was handed a poison chalice,a team with many Prima Donnas on outrageous wages.
No wonder some of them think they think they are God.They didn’t have respect for Moyes from the begining..They weren’t going to be told how to play by DM.
Any player who thinks he is bigger or better than his manager need to be sold immediately. It’s widely believed RVP wouldn’t play for Moyes. The arrogance of him. He’s paid a fortune and he has a gripe.Get rid of him immediately, that’ll sort that out.
Also those Man Utd fans who wanted Moyes out and gave him abuse, shame on you.Man Utd don’t have a monoply on success.Moyes will look back on this in years to come and he have vindicated himself when he wins the premiership with another team.Good luck David Moyes,a true gent.
Problem he had was he wasn’t fergie- ok before everybody goes – ok course he wasn’t let me finish
Fergie won title after title spending little money as opposed to other clubs- and that was the mould set by the club- little money out- big money in =success
Moyes was kinda doin the same job as fergie on smaller budget – so I would say it was taught lets not break the mould
But moyes was not ruthless fergie- a man engrained in the club where nothin happens without him knowing
Gill leavin didn’t help moyes either and it led to 2 bad transfer windows- the new manager needs to be in place ASAP and work done on new players maybe up to 6 before the WC if possible – tough ask I think – van gaal or Koop for me a long way to run in this story
John Giles stated on newstalk early in the season, when Rio criticised Moyes that the manager would regret not showing Rio the door. Bet he regrets it now, but his statement was class unlike Rio
It all seemed like kids who don’t respect a parent or a step parent more to the point.
Think Man U as a club has got so used to being top dog they just believe its a right.
Every dog has its day…
@Leopold lets check the “facts” shall we…. ” the former Everton boss will be given a £5million payout by United in return for the termination of his contract.”. That is more money then he would of made in a lifetime with Everton. a week and a half you say? “David Moyes has been sacked by Manchester United after just 10 months in charge, The 50-year-old had signed a six-year-contract with United” could have let the poor bloke finish the season.
It’s clear that Moyes is a decent, honorable hard-working football man. What’s also clear is the hypocrisy and utter lack of integrity the club as a whole showed towards him in his sacking and the lack of honesty from a large bunch of supposed ‘champions’. He was surely up against it in any number of ways and my heart would have liked him to stay and fight, but my mind tells me that this was just a post too far for him.
From a United fan, all the very best Moyes, and I’d love to see you bounce back or even get a top PL position again, even if it is unlikely. Hopefully the new man can clear the dead wood and start a new era from a much healthier beginning.
The difference is that the players seriously lacked motivation and drive under moyes. When busby and ferguson came in, the club wasn’t doing great and a whole lot wasn’t expected. Moyes would definitely have gotten longer if the performances were better, never mind the results. Listen to Everton fans who are glad to be rid of him, he was way too defensive against the bigger clubs during his time their and they never played high tempo attacking football which is characteristic of united .
Under moyes united lost the fear factor at old Trafford since we didn’t put teams to bed when we took the lead. Moyes wasn’t ballsy enough and was going to waste the summer transfer money if he wasn’t gotten rid of.
Finally moyes was not and will never be a top European manager. When guardiola, anchelotti, mourinho etc even became available in their younger days they were always in demand by the bigger clubs. Who ever came looking for moyes except buddy ferguson.
Credit Moyes for a very dignified close out. He was well out of his tactical & man management depth but he deserves credit for how he’s handling his exit.

Can’t blame him for not mentioning players.
Admirable and fair statement- respect.

Oh no,say your joking.
Fair play, hopefully he gets his career back on track elsewhere.

Where is it in his statement that he mentioned respect for the players ?
Players were disgraceful
Disgraceful treatment of a Footballing Man……Deserved a lot better………#united fan
Disgraceful misuse of a title winning football team…..even Allardyce was appalled by his regressive neantherball!
Class act to the end , wish him all the best with his new club.

Players just didn’t want to play ball :-)
The job was always too big for him
I’m not a Man U fan, but he got a raw deal, old players, players who didn’t want him and under preformed. Writing was on the wall from the start.
Easy to praise him and wish him well now that he is gone
Maybe spurs should hire him when sherwood leaves this summer. he’ll be able to rebuild them and challenge for the top four and cup competitions given half a chance.
Half the Spurs squad is under 25 with some really talented youngsters like Eriksen, Lamela, Holtby and Kane who is taking his chances well. Spurs don’t need rebuilding they need a manager who can get the most out of the players they have. A manager who spends £37m on one of the best central attacking mids around only to shove him out on the wing is not that manager
Aye…..thanks for the mammaries……..so precious!!

Obsessed by man utd much?
Good copy and paste work there
Naah……..just relaying some ‘facts’ discovered on the back of the ‘community bin-lid’…… the bin itself apparently, is full of sentimental guilt and a long white and red banner!!
Good work Penfold!
With a bit of luck ‘old whiskey nose’ will be just as blootered when he chooses his next legacy minder!!
I’ll always be incredibly of my 6th class project on the Bronze Age.
But I’m not proud to have a left a word missing.
Idiot!
I know I was constantly giving out about Moyes on here. But I wish him all the best in the future. The job was too big for him. Frank O Farrell knows how tough it was.
Good Luck David Moyes.
His sacking was leaked the day before hand to drive stock prices up, which worked. Disgraceful carry on by the glazers.
Of course he incredibility proud. hes will receive a big fat payment for being fired a few months into a 10year contract.
I think you’ll find he was a week and a half into a 17 year contract, check your facts.
Nice a avatar,silly comment.
As a Liverpool fan I’m also incredibly proud of him managing Manchester United! Gutted he’s gone lol YNWA :)
And a great job he did too. David Moyes is a football genius !!’
Credit Moyes for a very dignified close out. He was well out of his tactical & man management depth but he deserves credit for how he’s handling his exit.
Man united the company couldn’t afford to give moyes more time unfortunately.
