GIOVANNI TRAPATTONI HAS been forced to make a change to his starting line-up for tonight’s international friendly with news that goalkeeper Keiren Westwood has been ruled out.

The Sunderland goalkeeper, who has replaced the retired Shay Given as Ireland’s number one, suffered a groin injury and will return to his club this evening for treatment.

As expected, 32-year-old David Forde of Millwall will deputise between the sticks – winning what will be just his fourth senior cap.

The Galway native’s addition brings the number of former League of Ireland players in the first XI up to five.

An FAI statement reads: “The Football Association of Ireland today (Wednesday, November 14) confirmed that Keiren Westwood has been ruled out of tonight’s game against Greece in Aviva Stadium with a groin injury.

“Keiren underwent a scan this morning, and will return to his club later this evening for treatment. David Forde will replace him for tonight’s game.”

Ireland kick off against Greece at 7.45pm this evening.

  • Hope he gives 45 mins to both fit keepers. Crap always seems to go with Forde(32) over Randolph(25). Once again Crap worrying about his current ambitions and not caring about our nations future. Randolph even has had form over Forde in the past and is still overlooked, breaking a club record of 15 clean sheets last season. Love to see former LoI players make to the national set-up but what happens in the next campaign when Forde possibly steps down from international football leaving us with Randolph as back up to Westwood with 1 cap to his name. Great planning Crap.
Ireland team made of former LoI players:
    Forde
    Stevens Sweeney Dillon Ward
    Coleman Fahey Meyler McClean
    Hoolohan
    Long

Ok, so central defence was a struggle but was spoiled for choice in some positions.. Sean Dillion, Shels legend, and Young Pierce Sweeney at Reading both at clubs in their respective top division. Sweeney is a great young prospect. The 17 year old looked very solid in Brays defence last season.
