HOMESICKNESS HAS RESULTED in Kildare’s Daniel Flynn returning to Ireland from AFL club Port Adelaide on ‘a leave of absence’.
Port Adelaide confirmed the news this morning on the club’s official website with Flynn having come home as his grandfather is also ill.
“We wish Daniel and his family all the best in this difficult time,” said Peter Rohde, General Manager of Football.
“While Daniel has fitted in well and has made good progress with his football he has also struggled with home sickness.
“The club will continue to work with Daniel to help him make the transition to playing football so far from home.”
The 20 year-old, who joined the Adelaide outfit last November, is expected to link up again with Jason Ryan’s Kildare senior squad. Next Saturday night Kildare travel to Croke Park for their round four Division 1 league encounter against Dublin.
Flynn’s return is also a boost for the county U21′s who begin their Leinster championship campaign on Wednesday night against Offaly with a quarter-final tie in Athy.
Last April, Flynn won a Leinster U21 medal alongside Johnstownbridge clubmates Paul Cribbin and Sean Hurley as Kildare defeated Longford by 1-12 to 0-12 in Portlaoise.
Then in July, Flynn went on to make his senior championship debut for the Lilywhites against Offaly in their Leinster quarter-final in Croke Park.
