IRISH CYCLIST DAN Martin’s Giro d’Italia dream has ended prematurely, after he was involved in a four-man crash after just 14 minutes of the race in Belfast this evening.

The star looked to have suffered a serious shoulder injury after the collision on the Stage One time trial, which also involved many of his Garmin-Sharp teammates, in an incident that will rule him out of this year’s event.

Martin was fourth last at the time of the crash, and slipped on a manhole cover, with the three riders behind him crashing into the 27-year-old’s bike.

He subsequently received treatment on a reported broken collarbone, and the Irish cyclist has been taken to hospital for further treatment.
