CRYSTAL PALACE HAVE been fined over claims they obtained information about Cardiff City’s line-up prior to a game against the Welsh club last season, the Premier League announced on Monday.
The Premier League’s board upheld a complaint from Cardiff that tactical information was leaked to Palace officials ahead of the London’s side 3-0 win in the Welsh capital on April 5.
“The Premier League board has considered a complaint from Cardiff City regarding the conduct of a Crystal Palace official,” a statement from the league read.
“The board found that Crystal Palace breached Rule B.16 and has exercised its summary jurisdiction and fined the club.”
The rule cited states that “in all matters and transactions relating to the League each club shall behave towards each other club and the league with the utmost good faith”.
Palace could now face a fine of up to €31,300. Neither club was prepared to comment on the matter.
Cardiff’s complaint reportedly centred on their belief that Palace’s sporting director Iain Moody, who left Cardiff earlier in the season, had used his contacts at the club to acquire information about their plans for the game.
Moody described the allegations as “incredibly, extraordinarily untrue” and Palace also denied the claims.
Cardiff were relegated from the English top flight at the end of last season, while Palace finished 11th.
