Crawley player gives a fan in the stands a clip around the ear

Paul Connolly clashed with a Brentford supporter in Griffin Park last night.

CRAWLEY TOWN’S PAUL Connolly landed himself in hot water last night when he appeared to strike an opposition fan.

The incident, which happened late in Crawley’s 1-0 defeat at Brentford, was caught by the TV cameras at Griffin Park.

Connolly was retrieving the ball for a throw in before he apparently took exception to a fan in the front row and lashing out.

Stewards and match referee Steve Martin quickly intervened and no further action was taken at the time.

But if the Football League investigate, Connolly could face a retrospective charge for bringing the game into disrepute.
