WEARY OF COMPARISONS with Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo trained his sights on the tennis phenom from Majorca and Nike Football were there to capture it in High Definition glory.
The undisputed World Number 2′s (for now) left all thoughts of ‘Leo’ and Novak Djokovic behind as they challenged each other to a hybrid games of tennis and football.
The real surprise from Nike’s latest offering is not the ease at which Ronaldo and Nadal co-exist on court – the pair are on friendly terms and CR9 has been to tennis events in London and Madrid to cheer the Spaniard on. The revelation must be Rafa’s impressive ball-juggling skills.
Ronaldo was not tempted to swing some fibre-glass and was happy enough to tear up the flawless grass-court with his snazzy orange boots, while there are huge, personal, suspicions as to whether a stunt-footballer (Matt Le Tissier in a wig, perhaps) was flown in to act as a ‘Rafa double’ for the excellent scissor kick at the net.
Nike has always been known for its penchant for lugubrious, big budget adverts and have never had a problem in getting sports-stars to show another side to their personalities. Pepsi – take note.
