Two Cork schools and two Kerry schools advance to Corn Uí Mhuirí semi-final stage

St Brendan’s, Pobalscoil Chorca Dhuibhne, DLS Macroom and St Fachtna’s won their quarter-final ties today.

THERE WILL BE an all-Cork semi-final and all-Kerry semi-final in this year’s Corn Uí Mhuirí after today’s quarter-final action.

Reigning champions Pobalscoil Chorca Dhuibhne are still on course for a third successive title but the Dingle school needed extra-time before overcoming Coláiste Chríost Rí. They triumphed by 0-12 to 1-6 in their encounter at Dr Crokes GAA grounds in Killarney. Kerry manager Eamonn Fitzmaurice and former teammate Tommy Griffin were amongst their coaching team.

Next up they will face St Brendan’s (Killarney) after ‘The Sem’ won their meeting today with St Flannan’s in Rathkeale by 2-12 to 0-9. Former Dr Crokes boss and current Kerry U21 selector Harry O’Neill was at the helm as goals from Darragh Roche and Tony Brosnan helped them triumph.

The other quarter-final ties were both won by Cork schools. De La Salle Macroom enjoyed a six-point win over Intermediate School Killorglin as they ran out 1-13 to 1-7 winners in Rathmore. Joe Ryan scored De La Salle’s only goal of the game.

And they will now advance to face St Fachtna’s (Skibbereen). The West Cork school got the better Coláiste na Sceilge in Kenmare by 2-6 to 0-6. Stephen Leonard and Michael Hurley hit the vital goals for the winners.

The semi-final clashes will take place on the weekend of February 8th-9th.
