Time for the throw-in of the 2014 Munster senior hurling championship. Welcome along to Thurles, we’re half an hour away from the start of this season’s offering with Cork and Waterford facing off in the quarter-final tie. A dry but overcast day at the moment in Thurles. Cork are out on the field, we’re still awaiting Waterford’s arrival.

Waterford now take to the field, not a huge Deise crowd here so far it seems. The Cork support definitely outnumbering them.

Some team news then. First up in Cork with three championship debutants in Mark Ellis, Aidan Walsh and Alan Cadogan while it’s a first Munster outing for Damien Cahalane.

Cork strong favorites here against an injury-hit Waterford side. Prediction time?

Waterford 0-1 Cork 0-0: 1 mins – First blood to Waterford as Pauric Mahony slots over a free from distance.

Waterford 0-1 Cork 0-1: 2 mins – Patrick Horgan duly replies with a Cork free.

Brian O’Sullivan shoots wide for Waterford after being played in by Jake Dillon.

Aidan Walsh gallops through the middle for Cork but elects to go for goal rather than tap over a point. Waterford’s defence make the block and clear to safety.

Waterford 0-2 Cork 0-1: 4 mins – Mahony restores Waterford’s advantage from a free.

Waterford 0-3 Cork 0-1: 6 mins – O’Sullivan clips over a lovely point from the right wing for Waterford and that’s followed up by a wide from distance by Dillon.

Positional changes of note see Waterford start Kevin Moran at centre-back, Michael Walsh at midfield and Jake Dillon at centre-forward. Cork have brought Conor Lehane out to centre-forward.

Waterford 0-4 Cork 0-1: 9 mins – Waterford have definitely started brighter. Jamie Nagle just swung over a stunning point off his left from distance.

Waterford 0-5 Cork 0-1: 10 mins – And now debutant Tadhg Burke gets in on the scoring act for Waterford.

Cork look shaky so far. Patrick Horgan sees a point attempt from a free drift wide.

Waterford 0-5 Cork 0-2: 13 mins – That’s far better from Cork. A fine passing move out of defence culminates in Lorcan McLoughlin spraying a delivery in to Alan Cadogan who swiftly turns before popping over a beauty off his left. That’s his first point for the Cork hurlers in a senior championship game.

Waterford 0-6 Cork 0-3: 16 mins – Mahony on target again for Waterford from a placed ball but it’s quickly cancelled out by Seamus Harnedy, who caught the puck out brilliantly and smashed over a point.

Waterford 0-7 Cork 0-3: 18 mins – Dillon on the mark for Waterford, he looks to have swapped with Shane Walsh. In the Cork attack, there’s also a switch between Harnedy and Conor Lehane.

Waterford 0-8 Cork 0-3: 18 mins – Mahony again raises a white flag for Waterford from a free.

Substitute: Waterford’s Eddie Barrett has to go off injured with Richie Foley coming on to replace him.

Waterford 0-8 Cork 0-4: 25 mins – That’s class from Aidan Walsh as he despatches a sideline cut between the posts for Cork.

Waterford 0-9 Cork 0-4: 27 mins – Pauric Mahony showing that he can make a mark from play as well with a superb point after great work by Burke to set up the chance.

Waterford 0-10 Cork 0-5: 27 mins – Points swapped by Cadogan and Nagle.

Waterford 0-10 Cork 0-6: 29 mins – Cadogan has been Cork’s liveliest forward so far and he just won a free that was converted by Horgan.

Waterford 0-11 Cork 0-6: 30 mins – Another exquisite sideline cut, this time despatched over the bar by Austin Gleeson. An All-Ireland minor winner last year, the Mount Sion youngster has huge potential.

Waterford 0-12 Cork 0-6: 34 mins – Mahony on target once more with a free after Brian O’Sullivan was fouled by Shane O’Neill.

Three minutes of additional time.

Waterford 0-13 Cork 0-7: 37 mins – Horgan blasts over a 20-yard free after Cadogan was hauled down by the Waterford rearguard but Gleeson replies with a fine point for Waterford.

Waterford full value for this six-point lead and they’ve amassed nine wides as well. Cork badly need to reorganize at the break.

Waterford 0-13 Cork 0-8: 36 mins – Early boost for Cork in the shape of a cracking Horgan point as he gathered a delivery from Damien Cahalane.

Waterford 0-14 Cork 0-9: 38 mins – Fine work by Dillon to pick out Mahony and he finds the range to point. Then Cork hit back through Lehane’s first point of the day.

Waterford 0-15 Cork 0-9: 39 mins – The gap is back to six again thanks to Brian O’Sullivan.

Waterford 0-15 Cork 0-10: 40 mins – Fine debut by Alan Cadogan as he knocks over his third point from play today.

Waterford 0-15 Cork 0-11: 41 mins – Horgan dusts himself down after being fouled by Gleeson and points a free for Cork. Yellow cards shown to Gleeson and Coughlan in the Waterford team in quick succession.

Substitute: Coughlan is gone off the Waterford team with Shane Fives introduced.

What a goal from Austin Gleeson for Waterford!

Waterford 1-16 Cork 0-11: 45 mins – This game is firmly in Waterford’s hands now. Austin Gleeson charges through the Cork defence for a wonderful solo goal as he finished off his left and then Shane Walsh pointed.
