Shels ship five in Cork as Kilduff claims match ball

The striker scored four in Cork City’s 5 – 3 win over Shelbourne.

CIARAN KILDUFF IS celebrating a four-goal haul tonight after helping his Cork City side power past lowly Shelbourne at Turner’s Cross.

The ex-UCD striker scored twice in each half, with Danny Morrissey contributing City’s third of the night in the 5 – 3 win over the Dubliners.

Shels, who start and finish the night locked on 21 points alongside Bray at the foot of the table, took the lead through Dean Kelly’s clinical 22nd minute finish punished a poor backpass.

Another pass directed to the ‘keeper created the leveler as Kilduff pounced on a weak header and showed his class with a sublime lob over the head of Lee Murphy.

The marksman doubled his tally with another expert finish ten minutes before half-time to give the Rebels the 2- 1 advantage at the break.

Morrissey’s calm finish two minutes after the resumption compounded Shels’ misery, but after Morrissey passed up a chance for a second Kelly responded at the other end to reduce the gap again with 24 minutes on the clock.

It was only ever going to be Kilduff’s night however, and he completed his hat-trick eight minutes later  as he rose high to meet a cross and power home his header.

Paul Andrews would pull another back for the visitors, but as they chased, there was more room for the rangy striker to thrive and he netted his fourth of the night with four minutes remaining.
