Cork and Monaghan lead the way at TG4 ladies football Allstar awards

ALL-IRELAND CHAMPIONS Cork had five winners at last night’s TG4 ladies football Allstar awards at the Citywest Hotel.

Defenders Deirdre O’Reilly and Briege Corkery were honoured along with midfielder Juliet Murphy and attacker Valerie Mulcahy.

Geraldine O’Flynn completed the line-up for Cork as the Portlaoise based secondary school teacher was selected at left half back while she also claimed the Player’s Player of the Year Award after having a vintage year.

Beaten All-Ireland finalists Monaghan had selections on the team in Grainne McNally, Sharon Courtney, Cora Courtney and Caoimhe Mohan.

Cora Staunton collected a remarkable 9th All Star at full forward and was joined by fellow Mayo star, Yvonne Byrne, in goal who received her first award.

Kerry also earned two Allstars as Sarah Houlihan and Louise Ni Muircheartaigh collected their second awards after being previously selected in 2012.

Dublin captain Sinead Goldrick earned her second Allstar at centre-back with Galway’s Annette Clarke completing the selection by being picked at midfield.

It was also announced that Hong Kong will the destination for the 2014 Allstar tour next March.
