Cork fire home five goals and prove too strong for Kerry in Munster minor hurling opener

The Rebels advance to a semi-final meeting with either Limerick or Tipperary.

CORK CRUISED INTO the semi-final stage of the Electric Ireland Munster MHC with a 32-point victory over Kerry in tonight’s opening round clash at Páirc Uí Rinn.

Luke Meade, Eoghan Keniry and Dayne Lee starred in attack for a Cork team that piled on the agony for their Kingdom opponents.

Cork now advance to a semi-final tie against the winners of Limerick and Tipperary, who face off tomorrow night in the Gaelic Grounds.

The winners were in front by 1-14 to 0-3 at half-time with Keniry grabbing their goal in the 22nd minute. Lee’s point-taking from play and Hayes scoring from placed balls helped increase Cork’s advantage.

The result was never in doubt in the second-half as Cork fired home four further goals. Keniry grabbed his second in the 42nd minute before substitute Billy Dunne hit the with ten minutes left.

Meade crowned his display with a brace of goals in quick succession in the closing stages. Kerry tried hard with goalkeeper Stephen Murphy producing a couple of brilliant saves while Brandon Barrett and Michael O’Leary both struck some neat points.
