CORK HURLING COACH Kieran Kingston has confirmed that he is stepping down from his role with the Rebels.
The Tracton native spent three seasons as part of Jimmy-Barry Murphy’s backroom team, before announcing his decision this morning, leaving Barry-Murphy with a significant position to fill ahead of the 2015 campaign.
A former Cork senior hurler, Kingston told the Cork GAA website that work commitments prevented him from continuing next year.
“It is with deep regret that I have had to take this decision, but with work commitments that will take me out of the country extensively over the next eight to ten months, I wouldn’t be able to commit to Cork,” he said.
“I’d like to thank Jimmy Barry-Murphy, the management team, all the players and the County Board. I’ve had a fantastic three years and it has been an honour to work with this team, and while I’m not going forward this year, I would hope to work with Cork teams again in the future should the opportunity arise.”
Barry-Murphy paid tribute to the outgoing coach: “I would like to thank Kieran for his outstanding contribution over the past three years, both as coach and selector.
“He was instrumental in Cork’s Munster Final victory last year, and I hope to see him back working with Cork again in the future.”
