Cork City snap up Wexford ace Furlong

Wexford Youths striker Danny Furlong has agreed a two-year deal with Cork City.

CORK CITY HAVE added more firepower up front with the signing of striker Danny Furlong from Wexford Youths.

Furlong finished 2012 in a three-way tie at the top of the First Division scoring charts and caught City boss Tommy Dunne’s eye with 13 goals in 24 appearances.

The 23-year-old becomes City’s second new recruit of the off-season following Daryl Kavanagh’s move to Turner’s Cross last week.

“I’m delighted to have signed for the club and am really looking forward to this next stage of my career,” Furlong told CorkCityFC.net after agreeing a two-year contract.

There are some fantastic players at the club, so it will be a challenge for me to break into the team firstly but that is a challenge I am relishing. It is a matter of settling in and trying to win a place in the team and then seeing what happens after that.

Dunne said: “It is another addition in the attacking area of the squad, which will increase the competition for places within the squad.

“Danny has done very well in the First Division over the last couple of years, scoring goals on a regular basis, so we are hoping that he can now settle into the Premier Division and continue that good form.”
