CORK CITY WERE given a morale-boost during training, on Wednesday, ahead of their Airtricity League clash with table-topping Dundalk.
The highly-rated defender Brian Lenihan lost consciousness after falling awkwardly during City’s 2-0 defeat to Bohemians last Friday. Fears of a neck injury were allayed and Lenihan was diagnosed with a concussion.

“Brian is good, thankfully,” said City manager John Caulfield. “We all know how serious it was on Friday night. While it was disappointing that we lost the match, it was crucial that Brian was okay because it was very critical there for a number of minutes.
I don’t think people realise just how serious it was but when Dr. John Brown jumped the fence, he was able to act on it straight away. He god the best of medical attention so he’s good.”
Caulfied added, “He came along to training [Thursday] morning to say hello to us and he’s gone back in for a scan today. Everything looks okay and he’s on the road to recovery. As in when he’s back, we certainly don’t know but he’s certainly out of Friday night.”
City themselves are in need of good news on the pitch having slipped up against a Bohemians team that had previously struggled to turn good performances at Dalymount into victories.
Caulfield said, “We have worked hard at training all week, we are in front of our own crowd and it is up to us to give it our best shot. We will give Dundalk as tough a game as we possibly can; it is important for us to give a high quality performance. I’m hoping that we will play well and put it up to them.
“If we play well and they are better than us, that’s fine, but I have a feeling that if we play well, then we can get a result.”
