AFTER IMPRESSING AT an AFL developmental camp in London last April, Tyrone’s Conor McKenna has been invited to the NAB AFL Draft Combine this autumn along with Kildare’s Paddy Brophy.
To attend the combine, a player must be nominated by at least four AFL clubs so it is a prestigious honour for the two Irish players to get included on the 96-man invite list.
Much like the rigorous NFL draft testing, the AFL combine gives teams a chance to measure players athleticism but also their personality and character. McKenna has been on the radar of AFL clubs since contending for the man-of-the-match award in a game between both Irish and Australian players at the London training camp.
He will be joined at the combine by Brophy, who started in the Kildare forward line in his county’s qualifier defeat to Monaghan.
McKenna had previously named the Geelong Cats, Collingwood Magpies, West Coast Eagles and the Western Bulldogs as the clubs that were interested in him.
The combine will take place between 30 September and 3 October.
