CONOR MCGREGOR’S RAPID rise through the UFC has suffered a major setback with news that he is expected to miss up to 10 months with a cruciate knee injury.
The Dubliner cemented his position as one of the organisation’s most talked-about stars when he beat Max Holloway on American prime-time TV last Saturday night.
But the win came at a price with McGregor badly damaging his knee in the second round.
An MRI scan yesterday revealed that he has torn his anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) and posterior horn meniscus as well as straining his medial cruciate ligament (MCL).
The news was broken by UFC president Dana White on American television last night but McGregor, 25, responded with typical defiance.
“I celebrate adversity,” he told almost 55,000 followers on Twitter.
“Congratulations. Your favourite fighter is safe. For 10 months. #AintNothing I’ll do it on my back. EASY!!!!”
