Clare hurler McGrath wins suspension appeal to play in Munster club football final

Cratloe have been handed a boost before next Sunday’s tie against Dr Crokes.

CLARE HURLER CONOR McGrath was last night cleared to play in next Sunday’s AIB Munster SFC club final after successfully appealing his sending-off in the semi-final.

McGrath was shown a red card in the dying moments of Cratloe’s win last Sunday week against Waterford’s Ballinacourty in Cusack Park.

But at a disciplinary hearing last night at the Munster Council’s headquarters in Limerick, McGrath was successful in overturning the ban and will now be able to line out against Dr Crokes.

McGrath was accompanied by club boss, and new Clare manager Colm Collins, to the hearing.

“We’re delighted for Conor that he’s going to be available for us”, said Collins. “It’s great that we’ll have everyone for such a big game.”

The Kerry champions are chasing a third successive Munster title against a Cratloe team who will be appearing in their first provincial senior football final after only winning their first Clare title recently against Doonbeg.

McGrath will join seven other members of Davy Fitzgerald’s Clare All-Ireland winning squad in the Cratloe setup. Padraic and Sean Collins, Conor Ryan, Liam Markham and Cathal McInerney are all Cratloe teammates.

While Brendan Bugler and Fergal Lynch both play football with Cratloe due to the fact that their home clubs only play hurling.
