One-game ban could see Conor Gormley miss Mayo showdown

The Tyrone man may be slapped with a one-game suspension.

TYRONE MAY HAVE to line out against All-Ireland football championship favourites, Mayo, without Conor Gormley.

The Red Hand star has been handed a proposed one-game ban by GAA officials for this incident with Monaghan’s Dessie Mone last time out.

The players clashed as the sides left the field at half-time in the hard-fought quarter-final at HQ. Martin Penrose was subsequently sent off for his role in it but now Gormley too has been retrospectively banned.

Mickey Harte is likely to appeal the decision to the CCCC. The Ulster side face James Horan’s Mayo champions at HQ on 25 August. No one from the Tyrone county board was immediately available for comment.

Good to see its finally caught up with Gormley, you shouldn’t get away with striking a player. He’s a fine defender but he’s Tyrone most cynical player and has been since Ricey left the scene.

Jaysus surely this helps Tyrone, coz he’s had more roastings in Croker in recent years than you’d see on an episode of Footballers Wives.

Took them a long time to take action. Makes me think they might still punish Sean Cavanagh for dragging down Berlin Wall in 1989.

While I did think Gormley should have been sent off on the day, to come back to an altercation 10 days later and suspend him is ridiculous. Have any other teams been given similar treatment?

Something to be said for the media “attention” Tyrone have been getting of late.

Surely there is no way that he can get off on an appeal. His suspension is even more deserved than penrose! This will put Tyrone into a position, like Donegal, of ‘us against the world’ and see how that worked for Donegal

I’d say there’s a good chance. Anyway Mayo will win – and they will want to win against a strong Tyrone. They’ll not want to have any doubts going into a final against Dublin.

Tough question to answer.. Big difference between ‘the best’ and most successful. Kerry are the most successful and at the moment there are about 4 or 5 teams that have a good claim to be called the best right now.

You’d start an argument in a bar with that sort of question ;)

Kerry are by far the most successful county with 36 All Irelands, the closest rival is 13 titles away.

The best teams today arguably in no order are Tyrone, Mayo, Donegal, Dublin, Kerry.

So Kerry it is then. So Im going to buy meself a Kerry jersey the weekend and start supporting them. I have nothing to do with Kerry just like most people that support Manchester united have nothing to do with Manchester.

That does make sense because Manchester United fans think football was invented in 1992/1993…

But you should buy yourself a Dublin jersey, we will be winning the All Ireland this year

You don’t support a county team in the way it’s done in soccer. Nobody from Cork shouts for Kerry for example. All of the teams players are local and a great source of pride to all their counties for all they sacrifice voluntarily. If you want to support a county try find out if you’ve an Irish immigrant in the family and go from there would be my advice.
