Conor Clifford 'the future' says Tardelli when asked about Wes Hoolahan snub

“I saw him some times and for me he is a very good player.”

LAST NIGHT Conor Clifford received a surprise call-up to the senior Ireland squad.

The Chelsea player was added to Giovanni Trapattoni’s squad as midfield cover ahead of the World Cup qualifier against Germany on Friday night and the trip to the Faroe Islands next week.

The decision to call on the Dubliner, however, highlights again just how far down the pecking order Norwich City playmaker Wes Hoolahan has fallen.

“We decided on Clifford because it is the second time he has come with us,” Tardelli said after training today.

“I saw him some times and for me he is a very good player.

Asked if Hoolahan had been considered, Tardelli replied: “We look to the future and Clifford is the future.”

It wouldn’t matter if he was. Messi wouldn’t get into traps team because he wouldn’t have the work ethic for the old fool
