PAT GILROY WILL remain as Dublin manager for at least one more year, it has been confirmed.
Following a meeting this evening, the Dublin County Board announced that Gilroy would be re-appointed.
The manager, who steered Dublin to their first All-Ireland win in over a decade last September, is also a managing director of Dalkia, and it was feared he was no longer willing to combine the two roles.
Gilroy took charge of a flailing Dublin side in 2009, and oversaw the team’s humiliating 1-24 to 1-07 All-Ireland quarter-final loss to Kerry in the same year – their worst-ever defeat to Kerry in the Championship, leaving him subject to much media criticism.
However, Gilroy has since proved his critics wrong, by rejuvenating Dublin and helping them defy the odds to lift the All-Ireland trophy, in addition to overseeing two Leinster Football Championship triumphs.
