Confirmed: Eddie O'Sullivan wants the England job

The ex-Ireland coach believes his Six Nations experience could be an important factor, as he seeks the coveted position.

EX-IRELAND BOSS Eddie O’Sullivan has confirmed that he is interested in taking up the vacant England job.

O’Sullivan recently left his job as USA coach, despite overseeing some impressive performances from them at the World Cup.

Speaking to The Daily Telegraph, the Munster man’s agent, John Baker, indicated O’Sullivan will put his name forward for the job:

“Eddie is definitely interested in the England job. The England job is one of the most high-profile positions in world rugby and they are a side with tremendous potential.

“Eddie’s big advantage is that he has tremendous experience of the Six Nations and a fantastic track record in that competition.”

O’Sullivan won three Six Nations Triple Crowns with Ireland, however his time in charge was tarnished by the side’s poor showing at the 2007 World Cup.

Other coaches linked with the job include Northampton director of rugby Jim Mallinder and ex-Australia coach Eddie Jones.

Meanwhile, Conor O’Shea and Graham Henry have both ruled themselves out of the running.

Eddie never got the credit he deserved for what he did for Irish Rugby. He built it up but was tarnished with the poor world cup. Best of Luck to him

Warren gatland turned Irish rugby for the better. He brought in eddie o Sullivan and certain close friends warned gatland Not to bring in o Sullivan as he was a turncoat. Before we knew it gatland got shafted by the IRFU and o Sullivan got Gatland position by being a snake. Your giving him the credit for gatland work. O Sullivan over a period became a control freak and our players played like robots in the 2007 world cup. This is NOT opinion , it is FACT. So the know all’s above with your credit comments about o Sullivan who might I remind you all who also got a very nice pay off after the 2007 WRC that not everything is as it seems….. Remind me , after Wales did nothing for 20 years and Gatland arrived then how many Grand Slams did they win and how would one rate the welsh performance in the WRC 2011? Look it up. I rest my case.

Wouldn’t it be great if an Irish man lead them even further down the world rankings!

And as for you David…remind me what Wales won in 2005 & coached by Mike Ruddock? A Grand Slam, was it? Before you start abusing others for not getting their facts right, you should check your own. I do agree with opinions on EOS & WG though

No, as I said earlier I agree with your opinions on Eddie & Gats. But you said Wales were in the wilderness for 20 years prior to Gatland, when clearly they were not. Don’t write Ruddock’s success out of the history books

EOS pick a team without Simon Easterby? No sure who’d do all the unseen work that everyone else doesn’t notice?
I hope he gets the job, this clown ruined a world cup where we could have had a real chance.

if he gets the job it’ll be in some sort of combination appointment i reckon….. maybe Mallinder and O’Sullivan? both himself and Jones are backs coaches so wouldnt make sense to pair them. he has good experience and is a good technical coach – but his downfall was a personality flaw which on the face of it wouldnt work well within the English set up!

O’sullivan doesn’t work well in pairs as witnessed here, not a delegator plus I’m not sure the RFU would want a colonial running the show
