AFTER LAST NIGHT’S opening ceremony at Celtic Park, the 2014 Commonwealth Games kicked off in Glasgow this morning.
Over 4,000 athletes from 71 nations will compete in 17 sports and, according to The Guardian, the BBC are showing 1,300 hours of coverage over the next 11 days.
Northern Ireland have sent a 117-strong team to Scotland, which includes the likes of Irish Olympic medal-winning boxers Paddy Barnes and Michael Conlan, triathlete Aileen Reid, World Track Cycling Championships gold and silver medallist Martyn Irvine and record-breaking Paralympic sprinter Jason Smyth.
