Coming to America: Rory reveals US U-turn

McIlroy says he fancies playing on the US tour again and is even house-hunting in Florida.

US OPEN CHAMPION Rory McIlroy is back in America for the first time since his first major victory and he fancies staying there.

The Holywood man revealed tonight that he has had a change of heart about the US and is likely to take up his PGA Tour membership again.

The 22-year-old played the American circuit last season but then gave it up because he was missing Europe.

But on the eve of the WGC-Bridgestone Invitational in Ohio, McIlroy insists he is going to look at making a base in Florida.

McIlroy – who complained he wasn’t suited to the conditions at the British Open last month – believes his game is more suited to American courses.

“I spoke to a couple of the guys from the PGA Tour today about it,” he told reporters earlier. “I am leaning towards taking my card up again, definitely.

“I feel as if I play my best golf over here. I am very comfortable in this country and I am going to look at a few houses in Florida after (next week’s) PGA.”
