WEST HAM AND England striker Carlton Cole has accepted the FA’s decision to charge him with improper conduct after he posted a number of ill-advised messages on Twitter.
The incident occurred following England’s 1-1 draw with Ghana in an international friendly at the end of March.
Cole, who had been left out of Fabio Capello’s squad for the game at Wembley, appeared to suggest that the friendly was arranged as a ploy to ensnare Ghanaian football fans.
“Immigration has surrounded the Wembley premises,” he tweeted, following up with “the only way to get out safely is to wear an England jersey and paint your face with the St. George’s flag.”
Though Cole claimed that the comments were meant in jest, he deleted the tweets when he realised that they could land him in hot water.
He has requested a personal hearing with the FA in order to allow him to explain his actions. As this is a rather unusual case, it is not yet known what sanctions the striker could ultimately face.
