Galway SFC semi-finals

Holders Salthill/Knocknacarra were inspired by potent attackers Sean Armstrong and Seamie Crowe as they defeated St James’ by 0-13 to 0-11 in a city derby at Pearse Stadium.

James’, with Eoin Concannon highly effective early on, led by 0-6 to 0-2 before Salthill/Knocknacarra reeled off eight points without reply either side of half-time.

During that stint Armstrong and Crowe, who played youth team football with Robbie Keane at Wolverhampton Wanderers, were key contributors.

James’ did rally in the second half, but Salthill, managed by former Galway goalkeeper Cathal McGinley, did enough to qualify for the county decider.

Armstrong scored 0-6 (2fs), while Crowe also registered four points from play for the Seasiders.

Despite the first half dismissal of Alan O’Donovan Corofin were able to dig out a 1-12 to 1-9 win over Milltown at Tuam Stadium.

Milltown’s Michael Martin was in flying form, but Corofin were 0-6 to 0-5 ahead at the turnaround.

Then a Gary Sice goal proved to be the decisive blow as Corofin held on and they now face Salthill-Knocknacarra in the county final.

Cork SFC semi-finals

Castlehaven won the first Cork county senior football semi-final defeating divisional side Carbery by 1-14 to 2-10.

It is the third time in a row that ‘Haven have reached the county decider with a last minute point edging them over the line.

Nemo Rangers survived an awkward assignment as they fended off the spirited challenge of Bishopstown.

Nemo, one of the most feared teams in the country, had the guile to set up a fascinating final clash with Castlehaven.

Donegal SFC quarter finals

The draw for the semi-finals  has thrown up some intriguing clashes with Glenswilly to play Malainn, while Ardara and Killybegs face off.

Ardara had a 0-10 to 0-5 success over Gaoth Dobhair, while Glenswilly were 0-8 to 0-7 victors against Kilcar.

Longford SFC semi-finals

Mark Diffley scored a late point for Longford Slashers as they claimed a narrow 0-10 to 1-6 triumph over Colmcille.

Earlier on Cian Mimnagh impressed for Dromard as they oufoxed Abbey by 2-11 to 1-8.

Louth SFC semi-finals

St Patrick’s and Newtown Blues drew 0-9 each at the end of a tight tussle and a replay will be required to determine who joins Cooley Kickhams in the final.

Cooley Kickhams were 2-9 to 0-9 winners over O’Connells and they will be hoping to be similarly effective next time out.

Roscommon SFC semi-finals

A Frankie Dolan point nudged All Ireland champions St Brigid’s into another Roscommon final as they beat Clann na nGael by 1-7 to 0-9.

There were a flurry of goals in the closing stages as Western Gaels defeated Castlerea St Kevins by 1-10 to 2-4.

The Roscommon County final is scheduled to take place on October 6th.

Sligo SFC semi-final

Tourlestrane were far too powerful for Curry winning by a surprisingly big 0-14 to 0-4 margin.

Having dominated the opening half Tourlestrane went in protecting a 0-9 to 0-1 lead at the break.

Curry improved slightly in the second period, but they never really threatened a Tourlestrane side who had strong displays from Eamonn O’Hara and Brian Egan. Tubbercurry will be Tourlestrane’s opponents in the Sligo decider.

Wexford SFC quarter-finals

Sarsfields just had a bit of extra forward power as they defeated Kilanerin by 2-10 to 0-9 in an ill tempered clash.

Fethard shaded a close contest with Castletown, eventually prevailing by 1-7 to 0-7.

The Wexford SFC semi-final draw has been made with Fethard to face Sarsfields and St Martin’s will collide with Shelmailers.
