GRENOBLE MANAGED TO pick up a losing bonus point in the Top 14 over the weekend in a 25-18 loss to Montpellier. That was largely down to the excellent place-kicking of Irish scrum-half James Hart, who struck five penalties including the 76th minute effort that secured a valuable point for Fabrice Landreau’s side.

Grenoble were down to 14 men at that stage after hooker Vincent Campo had been red carded for this clothes line on Montpellier scrum-half Benoît Paillaugue. While there was little need for Paillaugue to sprint forward in order to get himself involved in the ongoing handbags, Campo’s instinctive reaction meant referee Sebastian Cloute had an excuse to send him off.

Grenoble are down to seventh after this defeat but encouragingly they are just five points behind Top 14 leaders Toulon. The work of Hart, Andrew Farley and coaches Bernard Jackman and mike Prendergast has played a key role.
