Clongowes Wood see off St Andrews to set up Schools Cup final with Blackrock

Up in Ulster, meanwhile, Methodist College were too good for Wallace High School.

CLONGOWES WOOD COLLEGE came back from a four-point deficit at half-time to defeat St Andrew’s College at Donnybrook this afternoon. Clongowes’ 27-12 win sets up a Leinster Schools Senior Challenge Cup final with Blackrock, who defeated Newbridge on Sunday, on 16 March.

St Andrews led 7-3 at the break thanks to a superb try from fullback Andrew Fogarty. A rolling maul, early in the second half, edged Clongowes in front and they never looked back. Cian O’Donoghue and Stephen McVeigh ran in additional tries before the excellently named St Andrews lock Johnny Guy grabbed a consolation try.

The was semi-final joy for Methodist College in the Ulster Senior Cup clash with Wallace High school at Queen’s Arena, Belfast. Methody were 12-10 down with five minutes to go but took advantage of Wallace being reduced to 14 players and snuck in for a late, late try.

Methody will take on the winner of the other semi-final — to be played on Thursday — between Sullivan Upper and Coleraine Academical Institution.
