SENIOR STAR JOHN Conlon was heroic for Clonlara today as his tally of 3-11 powered his side to a 3-20 to 2-11 victory over O’Callaghan’s Mills in the Clare SHC quarter-final.
O’Callaghan’s Mills were playing with the wind in the opening half but still found themselves 1-9 to 1-7 behind at the interval. Once the switch was made, Clonlara used the elements to their advantage to pull away for a 12 point win.
The most dramatic quarter-final of the day was between Crusheen and Newmarket with Crusheen finishing the match with 1-3 without reply to record a three point win by a score of 1-16 to 1-13. Newmarket held the upper hand for the majority of the game and led by 1-7 to 0-7 at the break, following a 19th minute goal by Shane O’Brien.
In the day’s other quarter-final, Cratloe beat Eire Og 2-21 to 2-13. The first-half was a hotly contested affair with Cratloe only leading by two at the break, through a score of 2-10 to 2-08. Eire Og were reduced to 14 men in the second half, which allowed Cratloe to pull away and reach the semi-final.
