Cork's Ciaran Sheehan marks his Aussie Rules debut with a goal and a win

“My first ever competitive game of footy and loved every minute of it.”

CORK’S CIARAN SHEEHAN enjoyed a winning start to life down under as he made his Aussie Rules debut on Sunday.

Sheehan, an All-Ireland winner with the Rebels in 2010, scored as the Northern Blues came from 37 points down to beat the Williamstown Seagulls 101-97.

“Great win with [the Northern Blues] today,” he tweeted. “My first ever competitive game of footy and loved every minute of it.”

Sheehan joined AFL side Carlton on a two-year contract in January but has started to learn the ropes at the Northern Blues, Carlton’s affiliate club in the Victorian Football League.

He seems to have the words to the team song down already:

Louth teen Ciaran Byrne, who also joined Carlton last year, impressed as well as he scored three goals in the Victoria Development League curtain-raiser on Sunday.

Seven points down, 160 seconds left but Wicklow manage to hit three goals to defeat Tipperary
