CIAN HEALY IS a huge believer in the power of positivity but the sight of his jeep [Land Rover Defender] clamped outside the Shelbourne Hotel today must have shook him.
The Irish prop, who starts against France at the Aviva Stadium tomorrow, will have some explaining to do if he hopes to get Dublin City Council to reverse the clamping charges.
@ Peter Daly: this happened today. I’ve just walked past the jeep still parked outside the Shelbourne, but now clamp free. I’m guessing he had a quiet persuasive word or two with the clampers ;-)
No begrudgery about it, John. He parked wrong, so he should be done for it. You can expect celebs to live by a different set of rules than the rest of society just because they’re celebs.
To paraphrases the great George bush there’s an old saying in Tennessee — I know it’s in Texas, probably in Tennessee — that says, fool me once, shame on — shame on you. Fool me — you can’t get fooled again.”
He thinks he’s above the law parking where he wants. Just because he plays for ireland. You don’t see the other Irish players parking there because they have respect.
The hotel staff parked it there! All the players get valet service when they are staying there for a match! Gets your facts right before you post extremely dull comments!
The Dublin clampers are a law on to themselves. Most of them are failed cops or bouncers so they can be very obnoxious. But the real culprits are the Dublin City Councillor’s for their lack of wisdom in having clampers in the first place. Clamping is driving millions out of the city centre economy. And it doesn’t even make a profit but costs money. Money which goes directly into the pockets of a private company.

Healy is a pivotal member of the Irish pack who is just coming back from a three-week ban for a rush of blood to the head that led him to stamp on the ankle of an English opponent. His vehicle has been clamped outside the team hotel for the second time in short succession. The piece gives us pause for thought about Healy’s abilities to shelve setbacks such as this and focus on a crucial game.
fairly sure the shelbourne has a drop off service similar to the valet in America, he dropped it off and went in, they didnt park it fast enough and it got clamped- hotels responsibility
whoever wrote this article would want to check his or her facts. i am open to correction but as far as i know this is not a jeep. it looks like a land rover defender. childish mistake to make
and using the word “jeep” as a catchall term for any vehicle that looks like a 4×4 displays an ignorance of the facts. a jeep refers to the original Willys MB jeep used in world war 2 by the American army. it was manufactured by a company funnily enough also known as jeep. it is currently owned by the Chrysler Group for more information google jeep wiki or click this link http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jeep
Seamus all of what you said is correct, pedantic, and only refers to the origin of the word. However before you get too high up on your horse, get a dictionary and look up the word jeep. The word has become so synonymous with that type of vehicle that it no longer represents the jeep brand alone. This is common in every day life, Hoover and Tupperware are two examples off the top of my head.
@Rob Davies as regards to your last comment if you want to use populist terms that’s fine its a free country. it does not men however that just because jeep is a popular name for any 4×4 that it is the correct term. the picture above is of a land rover defender not a jeep. as much as i might want to think of myself as in shape it does not make so unless i am in shape

He could just rip it off and drive away.
Ok folks……this photo is weeks old as the car was clamped after a previous match rather than just a day shy of the French match!
big land rover,
big set of tires
big muscles….is he compensating for something??……
Why does anyone need a jeep in Dublin ffs
The clamper would have needed a ladder to put that notice up on the window.
@ Peter Daly: this happened today. I’ve just walked past the jeep still parked outside the Shelbourne, but now clamp free. I’m guessing he had a quiet persuasive word or two with the clampers ;-)
With his teeth!
@gaius, healy needs a Jeep size. He’s a monster. It would be hilarious seeing him in a prius
What if there is,like,an emergency..and you need to get to ‘the country’
Maybe a lack of competition for the Irish no 1 jersey?
Clown
Is that not the height of ostentatiousness? Come back down to earth Cian.
Is that actually his car? If so, what a bell end
Nice looking 4×4
Much better than typical euro box
agree Tom, fab looking yoke
He just tweeted that its the hotels responsibility so he’s not paying. His arrogance is his best quality.
What an idiot.
Okay, so it seems the hotel has valet parking, which makes it the hotels responsibility. I retract my insult!
It’s definitely the hotels responsibility… You’d think the clampers would know that and not waste everyone’s time… But ohhh no!
Does he think he’s in the A-team?
He’d make a brilliant Irish Mister T
He thinks he is Ivor Callely minus the disabled sticker !
…or he could have just parked legally in the first place.
Others need angle grinders, Healy has teeth.
Definitely not a Jeep, look like a Land Rover to me.
jeep
/jēp/
Noun
A small, sturdy motor vehicle with four-wheel drive, esp. one used by the military.
Not the manufacturer “Jeep”!
Its a Land Rover Defender
Jeep was slang for a General in WW2,
Jeep = GP(Phonetic) = General Purpose Vehicle
I think it comes from the requirements requested back in the day for a light 4×4, just enough essential parts, jeep
Could just stamp it off.
This happened a month ago!
He’s talking about it on twitter as wee speak so…
He always parks it there so I’d imagine it happens him regularly…
I wonder as young lad,how often did he burn his hand on the iron?
Never, he burned the iron.
They stay in the Shelboure before the home games, the jeep is too big (tall) to get in their carpark so he’s always getting clamped there.
It’s his own clamp.
He keeps it in his pocket, it’s true, I’ve been in there!
Good enough for him!
Oh dear, good old fashioned begrudgery
No begrudgery about it, John. He parked wrong, so he should be done for it. You can expect celebs to live by a different set of rules than the rest of society just because they’re celebs.
celeb?
Catch me once, shame on you…… And all that!
To paraphrases the great George bush there’s an old saying in Tennessee — I know it’s in Texas, probably in Tennessee — that says, fool me once, shame on — shame on you. Fool me — you can’t get fooled again.”
I can’t believe that Journal.ie actually made a story out of this.
Fact!! Seriously it’s a clamped jeep. Must bring the camera out and take a few snaps of vehicles clamped might sell them to the journal!!
More clamping than stamping I guess
The jeep is to big for the car park thats why its parked illegally by the staff of the hotel me thinks !!!
Clown
Dear Cian Healy, Please consider acquiring a car that doesn’t require the city to be rebuilt around it! Cheers :)
Ok,that clamper wins big balls of the year award.
A high-performance clamper!
Do what jerry flannery did. Get a few big lads and lift it round the corner then rip it off.
Should be arrested for this.
For what offence?
For what, stupidity ?… Now if that was an offence you’d be locked up a long time ago !!
What a foolish statement.
Put a clamp on his right foot too!
He thinks he’s above the law parking where he wants. Just because he plays for ireland. You don’t see the other Irish players parking there because they have respect.
The hotel staff parked it there! All the players get valet service when they are staying there for a match! Gets your facts right before you post extremely dull comments!
Boo hoo
Alas a snap of Rob Kearney taken since you posted actually getting out of a his own parked car at the same spot would seem to disprove your theory
http://www.broadsheet.ie/2013/03/08/car-model-year/
You have too much time on your hands my man!!!
And one might ask, “why is he parking at the same spot?” And then one might answer “Now the hotel will take care of it!”
Failed cops or bouncers? Lol.
I would imagine they are using the word jeep in the same way most people refer to vacuum cleaners as hoovers. Not Jeep or Hoover
I had to hoover out the jeep after spilling my bag of tayto. Actually it’s a land cruiser and I used a goblin to clean up the packet of king crisps.
Cian that is a nice rig you got there.
I was in town a couple of weeks ago and there was a shammer flying down Wexford Street with a clamp on his car. The screeches coming from the car were unreal
Why is this news? Genuine question.
Why is anything news that doesn’t directly affect the audience?
Healy is a pivotal member of the Irish pack who is just coming back from a three-week ban for a rush of blood to the head that led him to stamp on the ankle of an English opponent. His vehicle has been clamped outside the team hotel for the second time in short succession. The piece gives us pause for thought about Healy’s abilities to shelve setbacks such as this and focus on a crucial game.
Thanks Patrick, puts it in context.
Not something that happens regularly
He looks a bit like his vehicle :)
Good to see one of the clan doing well!
Briliant stuff ! Nobody should get away with illegal parking. No matter who they are.
Boss. Were gonna need bigger clamps.
Size of them wheels.
fairly sure the shelbourne has a drop off service similar to the valet in America, he dropped it off and went in, they didnt park it fast enough and it got clamped- hotels responsibility
whoever wrote this article would want to check his or her facts. i am open to correction but as far as i know this is not a jeep. it looks like a land rover defender. childish mistake to make
See above and consider yourself corrected.
@Rob Davies see above where i spent nearly two years driving around in one i think i would recognize a defender when i see it.
and using the word “jeep” as a catchall term for any vehicle that looks like a 4×4 displays an ignorance of the facts. a jeep refers to the original Willys MB jeep used in world war 2 by the American army. it was manufactured by a company funnily enough also known as jeep. it is currently owned by the Chrysler Group for more information google jeep wiki or click this link http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jeep
to all who doubt please check this article http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Land_Rover_Defender. compare the vehicle above with the vehicle in the wiki page
My jeep is a Mitsubishi Pajero.

Looks more like a triangular wheel cover on that big wheel
That’s not a Jeep. Learn your brands please.
Its something that screams ‘SOUTHSIDER’, who cares about its exact name.
Healy isn’t a southsider, he’s from Clontarf – north Dublin! Quit your drivel, learn something about the game and quite clearly your geography! Dumbass!
Its a defender not a jeep!!!!!!!!!
Park n ride, eh?
Stupid car to bring into city Center
Jeep= Just Enough Essential Parts.
Idiot
No problem no penalty points he knows someone at the station.
So What.
Why not the golf?
Because Golf’s are too nice to clamp ;)
this is not news
