Hughton expects Hoolahan to 'knuckle down' after failing to get a move

The Norwich boss believes the wantaway Irish international will act professionally and get on with it.

IRELAND MIDFIELDER WES Hoolahan will put the disappointment of the January transfer window behind him and “knuckle down”, according to Norwich City boss Chris Hughton.

31-year-old Hoolahan was the subject of three bids by Aston Villa and another from West Brom on Deadline Day but failed to seal a move away from the Canaries — despite handing in a transfer request.

The Dubliner hasn’t appeared for Norwich since New Year’s Day but Hughton expects him to act in a professional manner and get on with the job.

“He’s a good player. There’s no doubt about that. We know what Wes brings us,” Hughton told the BBC.

I would very much expect him to knuckle down. He’s a good professional and a line has been drawn under it.”

“The transfer deadline has gone and at this moment he is still very much a Norwich City player. What he wants to do most is train well, play games and be involved and that doesn’t change.”

I think the Prima Dona here is that of Norwich City. He hasn’t been first choice for Hughton this season and hardly got a game at all, so Norwich clearly don’t need him. The player wants to play regularly and a club has come in with a good offer for the player and for Norwich. They wont sell to the club though as that’s where their last Manager went on “bad terms”. Seriously – what a load of childish rubbish.

I think hoolahan has a contract and if Norwich don’t want to sell its their choice. Just because he’s not playing doesnt mean he won’t be needed due to injuries or loss of form for other players. I like hoolahan but he has to respect the club that he’s with. Players only respect their contracts when it suits them. I.e Rooney and Suarez last summer

Let’s see how many thumbs down you get now because people on here are wearing irish rose tinted glasses. Cant speak out against an irish player even if he is clean useless and also the biggest clique you will see on any site!

It’s okay for the likes of Rooney et al to threaten to leave their clubs and look for more money, but when a half decent player (I’m not saying he’s gonna set the world alight) enters his 30′s and just wants to play as much as possible before its too late, you’re considered a sell out or something! It’s madness. Above all houlihan played a huge part in the resurgence of Norwich up the football leagues, so I’m sure he has a great affinity for the club, I doubt he’d like to leave if he was getting some games, but when you hit your 30′s you want to play as much as possible

I agree Noel, hoolihan is only looking for first team football, he’s not being greedy or anythg but unfortunately Norwich have the power in this case due to his contract and he has to accept it. I’m sure he’s thinking about his Ireland career also which would benefit
    If he did play regularly.
