LONG-TERM FANS of the Championship/Football Manager series will undoubtedly be familiar with the name Cherno Samba.
If ever there was a footballer to whom Marlon Brando’s famous “I coulda been a contender” speech in On the Waterfront applied, it was Samba.
He was a highly rated youngster in the game who ultimately never quite made it as a professional footballer in real life, despite forming a key part of plenty of fantasy teams.
However, the game’s makers weren’t the only ones to tip him for greatness — as the video below illustrates, Samba was once attracting the interest of several big clubs while at Millwall.
By the time of the clip in question though, his career was already on the slide, as he attempted to resurrect it at Plymouth Argyle.
Unfortunately, he made little progress at Plymouth, and was let go ultimately. After subsequently having brief spells at Haka, Panetolikos and FK Tønsberg, the 27-year-old is now a free agent.
