Last gasp van Persie strike salvages a point for United

The United skipper silenced his critics with a priceless equaliser as it ended 1-1 at Old Trafford.

ROBIN VAN PERSIE struck deep into injury-time to salvage a point for Manchester United and deny Chelsea an eight Premier League win of the season.

The Dutch striker fired home from five yards in the 93rd minute after Branislav Ivanovic was sent-off for a second yellow card. From the subsequent free-kick, Marouane Fellaini header was parried by Thibaut Courtois but the United captain was on hand to deny the visitors at the death.

It had looked like Chelsea would extend their lead at the top of the Premier League to six points through Didier Drogba’s header but United rallied late-on.

Injuries to Diego Costa and Loic Remy left Jose Mourinho with Drogba as his only fit striker and the 36-year-old certainly hasn’t let his manager down.

Moments after David de Gea made a brilliant save to deny Eden Hazard, Drogda rose highest at the front post to head home.

It was Drogba’s first Premier League goal since his return to Stamford Bridge.

That fight is back with Man U, it seems to be basic errors that undo them these days….

A 36 year old Drogba is a very good back up. He can easily play another couple of seasons. The height he got with that jump was something else

Quite frankly, United are killing themselves with the crosses. Neither of them have reached the forwards. Frustrating at times.

Definitely utds best performance. Draw was a fair result. Gaal getting the best out of fellaini. I know he scored but persie’s killer instinct is gone me thinks. Great game overall.

Haven’t celebrated a goal like that in old trafford for quite a while. Hopefully kick on now and start finding a Ruth&mark and some consistency.

Good performance from united. A bit disappointed in Chelsea, expected more from em. A draw was a fair result.
City have hit a little blip, can united take advantage next weekend? Hard to see em getting anything but u never know.

Good game I thought, seemed to be a dead cert Chelsea win but if United can cut out the mistakes then they will be fighting well for the top 4. Don’t think they are tight enough at the back to fight for the title but it goes to show that Chelsea are beatable.
