CELTIC GOT THEIR new Scottish Premier League campaign off to a winning start on Sunday.
Ireland striker Anthony Stokes fired the Bhoys in front with just 14 minutes on the clock after Hibs keeper Graham Stack allowed a Kris Commons’ cross through his grasp with his compatriot lurking in the box and ready to slot the ball home.
The visitors thought they had the ball in the net again minutes later when Mark Wilson poked the ball past Stack. However, the effort was ruled offside despite the Celtic captain’s protests.
Ki Sung-Yueng doubled Celtic’s advantage after the break with a stunning left-foot strike – an opportunity created by Stokes – and it might have been a 3-0 lead only for Stack, who knocked a Gary Hooper penalty attempt on to the post before gathering the rebound.
The result leaves Celtic second, behind leaders Motherwell on goal difference after the first weekend of action.
