ARSENAL WERE HANDED a tricky tie against Turkish giants Fenerbahce in the Champions League play-off round, while Celtic face Shakhter Karagandy, after the draw was made on Friday at UEFA’s headquarters in Nyon,
The Gunners, who reached the 2006 final where they lost 2-1 to Barcelona, will travel to Istanbul for the first leg to be played August 20-21 before returning to London for the second leg, scheduled for August 27-28.
Fenerbahce’s potential participation in the group stage though depends on a ruling from the Court of Arbitration for Sport, expected at the end of the month, having been banned from European competition by UEFA for match-fixing in domestic competition.

Meanwhile, seven-time winners AC Milan face Dutch runners-up PSV Eindhoven — a rematch of the 2004-05 semi-final which the Italians won on away goals — while French side Lyon will play Real Socieded of Spain.

In the champions route, Scottish title-holders Celtic were drawn against Shakhter Karagandy, which will see Neil Lennon’s men make a 4,000-mile (6,400-kilometre) trip to Kazakhstan.

When did Liverpool fans start to hate us so much? All we did was put in an offer for Suarez, it’s not our fault he’s kicking up a shitt storm. We’re not even rivals, Swansea are your biggest rivals and you sold Shelvey to them so what’s the problem now?
I’ve always hated arsenal, even more than united. Reason number 1 because of the disgusting behavior ye carried out towards vann nistlerooy 10 years ago now by that poor excuse for a human, keown and ray ur wife has left u with no money parlor. They were some of the most disgusting unsporting behavior I’ve ever seen on a pitch. Reason 2 ye’r manager is the biggest hypocrite in the game, just over a season ago he criticised Suarez for diving, when he has presided over some of the biggest divers the PL has ever seen, Perez, ljungberg and Henry but to name a few. Your welcome to Suarez players come and go and life goes on.
Thank you Patrick for that nostalgic walk down memory lane. “Your” 2 point dossier of Arsenals history has certainly put us all in our place. While we’re at it, any comment on Sterling being arrested for assault last night? No doubt the Keown incident was far worse.
Like who? Tony Adams? Championship winning captain twice, won more trophies alone than Liverpool have in the last 20 odd years…Merse…again championship winner, never come across a bitter Liverpool fan in my life, well done you xx
Do u know ur beginning to sound very much like most liverpool fans bringing up past success. That’s what not winning a trophy in so long can do to ye poor arsenal supporters, what is it 7 or 8 years now???
Nah just responding to your jab about some great players, quite happy the way it’s going at arsenal at the moment, new stadium paid off, the clubs being properly run, competing in the champions league and if we get your best player should be going for the championship, can’t blame Suarez for wanting the move, Liverpool don’t really seem to be going anywhere fast.
Hmmm maybe he was a user I’m not too sure but they’ve admitted problems with addiction and battled against them which has to be admired, and tony Adams set up a clinic to help beat addiction so yeah good guys if a bit flawed, just like fowler doin that goal celebration in front of millions
Ah I’m sorry for bringing up that ye haven’t won a trophy in a long time it must hurt. If I was arsenal what I’d do is invent a competition and say call it the emirates cup and get a few crappy teams to play in it, that way ye could win a cup, o wait actually……
He has a point about your manager. Most over-rated and over-respected manager in the Prem. what exactly has he won in the last few years. He may be a ‘tactical genius’(!) but where has it got him? Champions league lost final in 06, that’s about the height of it.
You’d be surprised how strong Pat’s could be, especially in Europe, compared to Celtic. Not better but certainly respectable. Pat’s also knocked out Celtic’s last opponent’s Elfsborg a few years back by the same margin. I’m just saying, don’t presume that because a League of Ireland team knocked a side out that an SPL side should cruise it.
Very true Fionn. Sure Pats drew in Europe with Celtic themselves not that long ago. I was half saying it hoping Celtic would lose and then return to make this point again :)
Karagandy have come on a fair bit since 3 years ago. Celtic should be considered favourites but certainly not a formality, especially given their track record away from home in the Champions League.
What, tearing up seats and sectarian abuse isn’t enough to hate a side? I’m pretty impartial, I don’t mind the side, but the fans seriously get to me, especially in Ireland. “Good win against Ross County the other day”. “Ross who?”.
I think people would be surprised the hatred there is for both Old Firm sides within Scotland. All this “we’re the best fans in the world” rubbish is pretty much negated as soon as you see them in away games in the SPFL. While I disagree massively with the banning of the Green Brigade, it’s not exactly difficult to see why they did it.
Sure, Celtic have some great fans, but they’ve a small minority of awful ones that just ruin their entire fan culture. The things a select few Celtic fans do have no place in football, and because there’s so many sympathisers for this behaviour within their ranks, real fans or not, I don’t feel it’s a club I can support or like in the slightest. Their exposure in Europe last year was great for Scottish football, but that’s about the only positive I can draw from Celtic over the last few years. I’m glad the majority of the players are at least likeable lads.
Tough draws really, arsenal wont find it easy in turkey but should be ok and didn’t matter who Celtic drew they would find it tough against any team left. Because they’re shit like..
I wish them the best of luck, and was in Celtic park once, great fans great stadium, but they are no hopers in this comp, not exactly breaking news. I have to go now seeing as that gypo (also known as Paul Johnson) doesn’t like me. He’s about 13. Sigh…
The Court of Arbitration in Sport will make the decision on Fenerbache’s participation after the qualification round, so it could be very embarrassing if they go through then get banned
Bursaspor were meant to replace them in the draw but as they appealed the CAS gave them a stay of execution , I can only assume that if they qualify and are banned then Bursaspor go straight into the group stages
I also noticed that it is ‘Court of Arbitration for Sport’ and not ‘in Sport’ as I said earlier
FC Sion had that against Celtic last year (or year before? Get confused). They beat Celtic but were later banned for fielding ineligible players and Celtic progressed. Fenerbache are a tough draw but could prove to be the easiest in hindsight :)

He might end up in jail like ye’r one time Captain Tony Adams.
Maybe he’ll do the Robbie Fowler snorting coke celebration when he gets off again. Please STFU
Ah so long as he doesn’t piss his career down the drain like so many arsenal players have done then ill be happy.
Like who? Tony Adams? Championship winning captain twice, won more trophies alone than Liverpool have in the last 20 odd years…Merse…again championship winner, never come across a bitter Liverpool fan in my life, well done you xx

How many years since ye won the league? Can’t recall?
At least robbie fowler wasn’t a user like Paul merson and tony adams
Hmmm maybe he was a user I’m not too sure but they’ve admitted problems with addiction and battled against them which has to be admired, and tony Adams set up a clinic to help beat addiction so yeah good guys if a bit flawed, just like fowler doin that goal celebration in front of millions

Karagandy, never heard of them but I’ll take it…………
http://www.rte.ie/sport/soccer/europa-league/2011/0721/282643-stpats_karagandy/
if an Irish team can knock them out, then Celtic should be ok. But a lot can change in 2 years
Ya. Celtic could have got worse…

So funny if LFC sold Suarez to Arsenal and they didn’t qualify. Pmsl.
Would love if Arsenal go out before the group stages…
Sad pool fans, no champs leag football of yer own to comment on.
Leave liverpool fans alone. They have a massive league cup match against Notts County to look forward to instead.
You could always come to the trophy room and view the European cup, probably the closest you will EVER get to it.ynwa.
How many Liverpool fans does it take to change a light bulb?
None. They just sit in the dark and talk about how good the old one used to be.
Arsenal will cruise through. Do Liverpool even have Europa league football?
Away games against Swansea and Cardiff are liverpools only games on foreign soil this year coming..
Don’t know about arsenal cruising through. They should get through but Fenerbache are no mugs, that’s if they are even allowed to play!!
How is Kazakhstan in European competition like? It fecking borders China. Celtic will be happy they are though!!
So does Russia….
Yes but the part of Russia that borders China is the Asian part of Russia.
So, it’s the same country, part of Turkey is in Asia too. It’s the Uefa zone.
Have you been to Kazakstan? Its very European.
Id say its as much European as Ireland, just being on the edge.
Never been no… My knowledge of Kazakhstan is limited to Borat I’m afraid! :-)
Fair enough, I was there a few years ago and its almost identical to Russia as far a culture. Its far away sure, but its not Asia.
Easy answer is because it is part of the EU ;)
Scrap that as incorrect. Part of Europe, not the EU. I type before I think :)
Great draw for Celtic, the team from Kazakhstan should be weaker than the Swedish team they beat.
I really don’t get all the hate for Celtic…
What, tearing up seats and sectarian abuse isn’t enough to hate a side? I’m pretty impartial, I don’t mind the side, but the fans seriously get to me, especially in Ireland. “Good win against Ross County the other day”. “Ross who?”.

And I’d love it if trolls didn’t exist on here, so I guess neither of us are getting their way.
Tough draws really, arsenal wont find it easy in turkey but should be ok and didn’t matter who Celtic drew they would find it tough against any team left. Because they’re shit like..
@Wank. Put any top European team in the Scottish premier for a few years and they would come out shit loyke…
Everybody thought the same last year,me included and look what Celtic achieved.
Maybe so. But that don’t change how crap they are now. That’s all I’m saying.
I don’t like hank but celtic are absolute poison
Hank,it’s not the size of the dog in a fight, but the size of the fight in the dog. And this is exactly what LFC having been lacking in recent years.
I wish them the best of luck, and was in Celtic park once, great fans great stadium, but they are no hopers in this comp, not exactly breaking news. I have to go now seeing as that gypo (also known as Paul Johnson) doesn’t like me. He’s about 13. Sigh…

It would be nice to see Swansea do well.
Good stuff lads. Some funny comments on here.
Fenerbache have Kuyt? Anyone else of much use? Suspect Arsenal will get through?
Kuyt went there to play champions league football.
Meireles i think
Is Merieles there?
U wud have to think that Arse will win this tie. Be chaos for Arsene if they don’t and its down to not signing anyone!!
Where is rangers lol ;-)
