LIVERPOOL MANAGER KENNY Dalglish has expended a great deal of energy this season countering criticism of Andy Carroll’s form and dedication.
His season-long insistence upon the club’s commitment to the striker was severely undermined this morning, however, with news of Liverpool’s recent attempt to broker a deal with Premier League rivals Manchester City that would have seen the 23-year-old depart Merseyside in exchange for Carlos Tevez.
“The Anfield club contacted City on Thursday to ask how much they want for Tevez and whether they would be willing to contemplate a straight exchange with Carroll. Brian Marwood, the City football administrator, rebuffed the idea immediately, even though Carroll is a player Roberto Mancini has admitted admiring when he was at Newcastle.”
Unsettled since his £35 million transfer from Newcastle United a little under a year ago, Carroll – who has married an at times visible lack of fitness with an unflattering strike-rate in front of goal – has struggled to endear himself to the Merseyside faithful.

That Liverpool are willing to consider exchanging Carroll’s services for those of a striker with as lengthy a history of disobedience as Tevez indicates the extent to which the Tynesider’s stock has fallen in recent months.
If you believe #LFC made the swap offer you’re mad. They could never afford nor would they want to pay those wages to a trouble maker. This is gutter journalism from the Guardian with no hard facts to back it up and a claim #LFC have refuted.
James its laughable that you would talk about gutter journalism and slate the guardian and then use links from a xenophobic rumour rag like the daily mail to argue your point.
Aido, I had already retracted the gutter press comment but I still stand by my basic argument that journalists are too quick to fabricate stories these days out of nothing; or more accurately take something with a grain of truth and manipulate it and blow it out of all proportion to be sensationalistic and sell papers. There was no balance to the article from DT; no input from an LFC spokeperson to confirm or deny; not even a “no comment”. Did he even try to get LFC’s input? Seems he did not. Yet people take it as gospel that because MCFC said it, then it must be true. There is no chance of LFC paying Tevez’s wages and I really doubt LFC would want him with all his baggage; regardless of the merits of AC. I agree with you re. the Daily mail but it’s the only paper I saw late last night that had a comment from LFC. Daniel Taylor isn’t exactly neutral in this either; he has his own interests to protect. He is after all the author of two of Alex Fergusons books and based in Manchester. He wouldn’t be trying to stir it immediately after LFC knocked both Manchester clubs out of the cups would he? Surely not. Here’s my last word on this; I feel that in the modern era of social networking that good old fashioned journalism where stories were fully investigated and reported with balanced commentary is a dying art. Journalists are under too much pressure from editors to get the story out there before it appears on a blog and the public by and large are too willing to accept rumours, stories and allegations as fact without questioning its reliability and accuracy. This article is but one example of what I am talking about and I would have expected better from The Guardian a paper I currently subsrcibe to but will not be renewing my subscription.
Poor Andy Carroll. I can’t imagine Liverpool believe Tevez would go to Anfield. It’s hard to believe this story as the world and it’s mother knows tevez wants out of the north west of England.

Check your facts sir. And seriously the Guardian is about as far from a gutter newspaper as you can get. LFC offer is confirmed by club Themselves.
OK I accept gutter journalism is too extreme an adjective but the standard or journalism there and elsewhere is alarming.
Ronan – still waiting to see where you saw LFC have confirmed their offer? Andy Carroll is ready to fight to save his Liverpool career after the Anfield club emphatically dismissed stories they wanted to swap him for Carlos Tevez. #lfc have confirmed they made the offer
Seriously – where did you hear or see proof they have made an offer?

it’ll never happen. who wants him…one of our worst acquisitions.

They have? I’ve just been on the website & haven’t seen anything there
