Easy wins for Liverpool and Spurs in tonight's Capital One Cup quarter-finals

The Anfield side will now face Chelsea in the semi-finals.

TWO GOALS FROM Raheem Sterling and one from Lazor Markovic were enough to send Liverpool into the semi-finals of the Capital One Cup this evening. However, the reward for their facile win is a semi-final with Premier League leaders Chelsea.

Though the home side created a couple of early opportunities, Liverpool soon put their run of bad form behind them to string together 52 passes in the build up to the freshly-shaven-headed Sterling’s first goal on 20 minutes.

Serbian international Markovic doubled their lead seven minutes later with a fine strike from the edge of the box though a rogue whistle in the crowd caused at least one Bournemouth player to believe play had stopped because of an offside in the build up.

Sterling bagged his second of the game six minutes after the break when he glided past Tommy Elphick before slotting home. The Cherries did pull a goal back in the 57th minute through Dan Gosling but it was too little, too late for the Championship leaders.

In the night’s other game, Newcastle conceded four goals for the second time in five days as Spurs ran riot at White Hart Lane.

Nabil Bentaleb, Nacer Chadli, Harry Kane and even Roberto Soldado found the back of the net for Tottenham as they advanced to the semi-finals with ease.

Spurs will now play Sheffield United in the final four.
