Canavan set to take the reins at Fermanagh

The Fermanagh County Board are expected to sign off on Canavan’s appointment as senior football manager this evening.

PETER CANAVAN IS expected to be ratified as Fermanagh’s new senior football manager later this evening.

The Tyrone legend and six-time All-Star winner was heavily tipped last week as the man to take over from John O’Neill.

And despite the county board’s insistence that they would not be rushed into a decision, it now appears that Canavan could be the only candidate proposed at this evening’s meeting in Enniskillen.

A source close to the five-man appointment committee told TheScore.ie earlier today that Canavan’s ratification was simply waiting to be officially rubber-stamped at this stage.

Seven candidates were considered including former boss Dominic Corrigan, ex-Derry manager Paddy Crozier, Burren manager Frank Dawson, Cathal Corey, Peter Clark and Darran Chapman.

Canavan was initially thought to be reluctant to take over at the Erne County following last season’s off-field disputes between the players and management.

But he emerged as the clear front-runner last week and it is understood that most of the other contenders are happy to step aside and support his nomination.

If appointed, Canavan is expected to bring former inter-county team-mate Enda Kilpatrick and Ciaran Donnelly on board as part of his backroom team.
