Cadogan, Walsh and Shields to miss Cork's clash with Kildare next Sunday

Hurling commitments rule out Cadogan and Walsh while Shields is injured.

EOIN CADOGAN, AIDAN Walsh and Michael Shields are all set to be absent for the Cork footballers for next Sunday’s Division 1 league meeting with Kildare.

Dual stars Cadogan and Walsh will both be focused on hurling commitments with Cork’s Division 1B league campaign commencing on Saturday February 15th when they face a pivotal game against Limerick.

Cork managers Jimmy Barry-Murphy and Brian Cuthbert had reached a prior agreement which ensured the pair would be free this weekend to link up with the hurling squad.

Cuthbert will also have to plan without his captain Shields after he limped off with a knee injury in thes second-half yesterday’s win over Westmeath in Páirc Uí Rinn. It is understood that the St Finbarr’s layer has not suffered a serious injury but is still expected to be out of action for a few weeks.

Cork’s next football league game after this weekend is their trip to Croke Park to face Dublin on March 1st. They will hope to have the trio – who all lined out yesterday in Páirc Uí Rinn – back in harness for that game.

Several members of Cork’s squad are in Sigerson Cup action this week. Of those that featured yesterday Donal Óg Hodnett will be playing for Cork IT tomorrow night against a Carlow IT side that includes Brian Hurley.

UCC take on Trinity College on Wednesday afternoon with Conor Dorman and Brian O’Driscoll, who came on as a second-half substitutes yesterday, both involved with Billy Morgan’s side.
